Nick Sogard has settled in after a rough start. With some arbitrarily picked end points:
Started 8-45 (.178) 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 BBs, 18 Ks (40%)
Since 10-28 (.357), 3 2Bs, 7 BBs, 5 Ks (18%)

Interesting to see the Woo Sox broadcast giving pitch velocities down to the hundredth place. Haven’t noticed that before. Seeing 95.28 MPH fastballs is a new thing to me.

Is gameday right? Grand slam but they got the runner out at second?

Ryan Zeferjahn is coming into his own as a reliever. Came into a bases loaded, no outs situation and got out of it with no runs allowed. Looked good while doing it.

Duran left the game after showing some discomfort in the same foot he had surgery on this offseason. Not ideal. We’ll see how that goes.

This is fine as a minor league flier, but is Cron really an upgrade over Dalbec at this point in the given role? You’re looking for a backup 1B who can hit lefties. Over the last two years, (134 PAs for Dalbec, 266 PAs for Cron), Dalbec had a .755 and .859 OPS in 22/23 vs .695 and .747 OPS for Cron against lefties. Cron has a track record of success in this league, which Dalbec can’t really say, but given all the other factors, I’d stick with Dalbec.

Texas just makes more and more sense as a destination for Jansen. Texas has always needed bullpen help and other than bringing in Kirby Yates, haven’t done anything of note. To top it off, the Angels got Stephenson and the Astros got Hader. Let’s hope they feel the pressure, especially as reigning champs, and make a good trade with us.

Ryu is available. He always dependable. I’m not mad at that . Ryu is going to be 37 this year and has pitched more than 70 innings in only one of the last four seasons. Not sure how much you can depend on him moving forward. Not to say that he isn’t a worth a flier, but he shouldn’t be anyone you’re penciling into the rotation.

Per the Rankings History page, last year we sent the #4, #6, #8, #13, #17, #25, #27 and #29 ranked prospects. Bello too who was no longer ranked at the time.
This year, we get the #1, #2, #3, #6, #7, #9, #11, #13, #16, and #24 ranked prospects.
Help is most definitely on the way.

Corbin Burnes to the Sox would worry me a bit. This is purely box score scouting, but all of his numbers have regressed over the past three years.
ERA: 2.43 to 2.94 to 3.39 ERA+: 170 to 137 to 127 FIP: 1.63 to 3.14 to 3.81 WHIP: .940 to .965 to 1.069 HR/9: 0.4 to 1.0 to 1.0 BB/9: 1.8 to 2.3 to 3.1 K/9: 12.6 to 10.8 to 9.3 K/BB: 6.88 to 4.76 to 3.03 WAR: 5.3 to 4.0 to 3.5 BABIP: .309 to .259 to .244
That isn’t to say that he isn’t still a good pitcher or anything. He’s still a great pitcher and would easily be the ace of the Red Sox. But I’d be very hesitant to trade away a top tier piece for Burnes.

This signing doesn’t mean a ton to me. He’s making about $250k more than the vet minimum, so it’s not like you’d be crushed if they have to end up DFAing him. Sounds like he had more of a market than your average AAAA reliever and they needed to pony up a bit more than a minor league deal with an invite to major league camp. If it works out, great! If not, then you’re eating 1 million dollars of a payroll that should hopefully be north of 200 million.

The fact that the CBA seems to explicitly allow this is one thing, but just from a fair play sense, I’m not a fan. The next CBA is definitely going to address this and it will get ugly.

Snell led the league in walks, had his lowest BABIP since 2018 (well below his career average), and pitched more than 130 innings for the first time since 2018. I don’t trust him to age well into his 30s.
As for the hitters, I’m not a fan of Gurriel, Teoscar, or Soler. If I had to rank them, I would go in that order but I think O’Neill does take them out of the running for them. I think there’s still a chance they make moves in the outfield, but I think it will come via a trade.

My preference for the top tier starters in order goes:
1. Yamamoto 2. Montgomery A very distant 3. Snell
For the second tier guys
1. Imanaga 2. Lugo 3. Giolito
If the Sox somehow can get Yamamoto, I think they’re looking a little further down for that second pitcher into the Wacha/Lorenzen/Flaherty range. But sadly I don’t see Henry paying Yamamoto. His market is going to turn into an overpay because of competition and Henry doesn’t seem like he’ll go that far. If the Sox can get Montgomery and one of Imanaga or Lugo, I’ll still consider that a successful offseason for pitching.

Good for Fitzy. He wasn’t getting a shot at the majors in Boston. Maybe he will in KC.

Red Sox take catcher Mickey Gasper from the Yankees in the minor league portion. My new favorite player. He’s from my hometown.
