Honestly, at this point, I would not sell off any of the top 5 for anyone. This team just doesn't have that championship fight in them. I mean, it comes and goes;almost bi-polar like in how they play. Fire Farrell and begin anew in the off season, IMO.

Wait what? Evaluating this guy should be just as easy as evaluating the guy who quickly became the best player of his generation and top 5 all time in Lebron? News to me. So you are saying Abreu is going to step in and immediately become Miguel Cabrera? Or that scouts are so spot on that what they say should be treated as gospel? It's either one or the other but both are absurd. I say best case is he becomes Prince Fielder and worst case he becomes AAAA fodder. I'm saying he gets the biggest contract ever for a Cuban player. At no point did I even remotely imply that he will be as good as Miguel Cabrera. I said IF Nike can feel confident enough to give Lebron James a $92 million dollar shoe contract before he had played a single game in the NBA they SHOULD be able to give a fairly accurate eval of Abreu's projection at the mlb level. The guy has been playing internationally for years and done quite well by the way also. The scouts are potentially sand bagging these reports. It is in their interest to down play his potential in the press. In their team's interest. I would bet the guy is a huge signing. At the very least $60 mil. The chances of him being AAAA fodder is very remote. He has been putting up big numbers for several years in a row now and he has been one of the leading players in the world during recent international tournaments and from all reports he has lost a lot of weight and is in the best shape of his life. I hope we sign this guy. We don't want to lose out on this player. He appears to be exactly what we need going forward. Hypothetically he could even play in LF some for us. If he could play in the OF anywhere, Fenway's LF would be the best spot available in a mlb OF. Besides maybe Houston or a very few other locations. From all reports he is mainly a 1st baseman but for us he could also move over to DH someday and maybe play at least some in LF. Thanks for clarifying but you did mention evaluating Lebron and Abreu in the same sentence and drew your own conclusions. I did the same with interpreting what you said as in 'he's the next Miguel Cabrera'. Depends on how you look at it but from my point of view its seemed to be what you were hinting at. I hope we sign him as well as his upside seems very high. I just wouldnt give him a $100M contract or something crazy like that.
