One comment/suggestion - it would be very helpful to have the old rank (the one in parentheses) not reset as often as it seems to do. I know there is a rankings history page, but it’s very difficult to see at a glance who’s rising and who’s falling. Maybe you could keep the last ranking below the new one, instead of resetting them both to be the same? Thanks for the input orion, but it seems to conflict with itself. The old ranks only reset twice per year, at the start and the end of the season. We've heard the second request a few times before and responded to the reasoning on that. We don't think a comparison to last month's rankings is incredibly valuable, some readers tend to grossly overreact to a bump or drop 1-2 ranks in either direction, which oftentimes is just due to other prospects moving around that player. If readers are interested in the material month-to-month movement, that's why we do the monthly forum post. I started tracking changes since the Jul update this year. I believe I have the pre-season + June ranking that were still available. If anyone has older data, I can try incorporating it is a little messy qdpma.azurewebsites.net/zbaseball/soxprospectsranking.xlsx

my best stab at this. of the players we drafted and signed (per baseball-reference) between 02 to 19. ______ pitchers / position _ number 143 / 153 (Kelly is listed as SS) Bonuses: 58M / 67M ___ bWar 143 / 302
11 pitchers have produced more than bWar 4, of course, the 3 studs were drafted in 02/03/05. the rest drafted 06 and later. Of these, the best is Ryan Pressly at 10.2 (unfortunately not for us), Justin at 10.1 there were 5 position players drafted in 02-05 who produced more than bWar 4, 9 were drafted after 05.
Of the bonus babies, 1M+ (not year adjusted) 9 pitchers either bWar 1.3 (Buttrey) or less or did not make majors. 15 position players were either bWar 0.3 or less.
so, we can view this a failing to draft pitching studs after 05, or did great in drafting position stud both before and after 05. either way, lets just do the best we can drafting regardless of position, trade excess, and fill in the gaps with free agent, international etc

Apologize for the distraction. Yes I would like to see Wilyer get a shot next year, but he would be my second choice for corner. I suppose we could see them in September?

should Yoshida becomes DH in 24, I would like to see Dalbec get another go to see if he can get it together, and possibly have some trade value. Wilyer would the second LF/RF to come up when needed Are you suggesting Dalbec in LF? 1B and DH are taken in your scenario. I would just like to see Dalbec get another shot at the show, on the off chance he has a Chris Davis or even Josh Donaldson career trajectory. Only to ride the control years, let some other team pickup the free agent

this has been a strange year. I seem to recall in previous WS years, we'd be something like bWAR 40 batting and bWAR 20 pitching this year, we are currently bWAR 14.9 batting and bWAR 15.4 pitching we are 9 of 15 in AL batting, and 2 in AL pitching, 7 of 15 in AL bWAR
bWAR by position (bat + defense), not batting

Hearing a lot about park effect inflating the Sox AAA hitters lately and not just from this poster. So I looked up the away stats for the three players mentioned above. If I am looking at the correct stats, the road OPS's for these 3 players are as follows: Rafaela 1.107 Dalbec 1.017 Abreu .791 While Abreu's OPS is significantly lower on the road, Rafaela's and Dalbec's are not. So maybe the park effect is not helping Rafaela and Dalbec that much. ok, but Wilyer's OPS was 0.802 prior to the last home stand, 6 HRs later, its 0.901, let me see what the split was prior to last 6 games edit: prior to last 6, Wilyer's home OPS was 0.815, away is 0.791 as shown above 6 HRs is 6 games can do wonders for a prospect's OPS!

the Worcester lineup on Sunday with Valdez-Abreu-Dalbec-Scott-Fitzgeral with OPS .972/.901/1.011/.999/.893 and Rafaela at 1.035 having the day off. Hamilton is not bad at .805

I take it that Clemens with the Red Sox predates your memories? When he was really on I felt he could toss a no hitter (which he never did) or whiff 20 (which he did twice). Unfortunately yes he does. Totally believe this though. After the guys I named I’d say the closest would be in order: Beckett, Schilling, Buchhoz. I vaguely remember a sequence in which Sox would win with Clemens, lose the next four, win w/C, lose the next four? or was that Pedro?

let's say Roman now grades at 5. I figure Teel should also grade as 5 or first among 4.5's. Both Zanetello and Anderson probably rate 4.5 grades. Assuming Drohan retains his 4.5 grade, just lower down. that gives us Mayer at 5.5, three grade 5 prospects and 9 at grade 4.5.
I am thinking Bleis' grade of 5 might be low, even though is projection for a young player in A. We grade all five tools as above or plus (above, plus, plus, plus, above). That should imply the sum is above? Mayer tools is plus, above, fringe, plus, plus for a sum of above?

i said this months ago and got roasted 😂. Our top 10 prospects all combined don’t have 36 pages. You know what let’s get roasted together. I’m not afraid one bite. there is no such thing as excess triple-A pitching depth, if we get him back its worth it

I wasn’t denigrating Fabian’s talent irrespective of how he is doing in AA. My comment was purely a matter of negotiation. A good offer in hand should be treated as equal or better than a chance of more later, which turned out to be a high risk. He should have accepted that he did really well in the 2021 season and bettering it next season was not certain Technically, he had an offer in hand from the Orioles that was far superior than what Boston could offer, and got screwed over Ah, I am all for screwing over the O’s even if it meant Fab took a hit, but it seems in then end, we did the Os a favor?

It’s possible prospects have learned from the Fabian strategy? Under slot in hand is better than over slot in the bush

I wouldn't normally be in the business of critiquing the fashion choices of a teenager, but... Disagree. He looks like a kid ready to rock the hell out of prom period the end. Sure, not best for business, but it is meant to catch the attention of the ladies

Wow 3 straight in Boston. I pray the pitching holds up. I’m pretty confident in the offense. Which ERod do we get tonight? He has a touch of Bucholtz in him. When he is on he is better. for your lack of faith, e-rod will pitch 7+ shutout innings
