Speaking of Cubans, and I realize it likely doesn't mean much, but I found it of at least mild interest; 27 year old outfielder Alfredo Despaigne, former home run champion of the Cuban league and arguably the top player in the nation, is currently playing in Mexico. Please tell me there is something that can be done to bring this man across the border asap Sadly he is being leased out by the Cuban Governmnet in a "cultural exchange" with Mexico. It is kind of like how Cuba sends boatloads of doctors to Venezuela in return for oil subsidies. So while he may be more able to defect, if the government decided to do this it would indicate that he is a pretty firm member of the party/ likes his family a lot. I would love to see him and Abreu actually play against legit competition. Yeah, I was aware of the exchange deal, I probably should have mentioned that. It's as you've said, it simply makes for a much easier defection if he did choose to go that route. He and Jose Abreu are two players I've been following for some time, and I'm simply tired of seeing the nutty numbers they put up and wondering "what if". But I digress, just thought it was worth a mention.

How many player's baseball careers have panned out after there football ones didn't? Most day 3 players don't pan out, so why not take an upside play on a great athlete that could turn into something nice if they focus on baseball? I Have to agree with the sentiment in regards to taking gambles on pure athleticism in Day 3; the high floor vs high ceiling debate shouldn't apply in these rounds, as very few (perhaps none) of the remaining prospects have that high floor to fall back on. I was one of the few that honestly loved the Shaq Thompson pick at the time it was made; sure it turned out to be a complete disaster, but it's called a gamble for a reason. A player with that degree of explosive athleticism putting his focus primarily on baseball allows one to dream big. This as opposed to an organizational filler pick such as Nathan Minnich, Keaton Briscoe, etc. What's the ceiling on Minnich? Perhaps a Mauro Gomez type, though even that seems doubtful. It's said that we need organizational type picks to fill the system, but many of these upside players who miss will end up becoming those guys anyway, while the ones that do hit, could become impact major leaguers; a role in which Minnich or Briscoe are nowhere near projected to fulfill. The floors on both upside and organizational players are practically identical anyhow, so why not shoot for the moon? Anyway, I digress. By the way, what is the status on Carlos Williams? For those who don't know, he's a two sport high schooler whose commitment to football I'm not sure about. But I ask because he's said to be the fastest player in the draft, even more so than McPhearson, having run the 60 in 6.18

Thoughts on Jordan Paroubeck as a potential 3rd round pick? Generates good present power from both sides, and Bonds (a childhood friend of his father's) has been giving him private lessons for a number of years.
