Yeah, they overperformed this year, which was obvious in the first third of the season. 10 mill comes off the books this offseason. This was an off year, they did well, but the plan had to be to put of a decent season due to Don selling everything and mortgaging the future for years. Have to survive a couple more years and get some kids going to reinfused the core. Marchand is in his twilight, and so many of the other lines are patchwork at best. Could be a couple years before we see a team ready to make a deep playoff run.

Maroon looks completely washed up. We have to have a better option than him. corpse.

wut, Tatum or Brown missed another crunch time foul shot? This one cost them the game? Nah...can't be.

is Tatum on Gordon? Is he sleeping on him like this, or is it someone else? Gordon is just eating them alive at the rim. I would love to see replays of who was covering Gordon for all those put backs in the 4th. I know Tatum was covering once in the corner and he stood there and watched Gordon go right by him for the put back dunk. i want to see fire in the kids eyes, the kind of fire that has him start doing everything, not ball watching with that deer in the headlights look on his face when his man runs past him to the rim and puts one back in. He still looks 19 too often. KILLER. INSTINCT. Get some ffs.

Nuggets are going to win again this year. in their head to heads it certainly looks that way. Tatum is still not a winner in the last minute. He gets tight and makes bed decisions. Those two fall away shots that cost them Cleveland and the first Denver game were terrible shot selection choices he only makes when he gets tight. I don't know if he'll outgrow that or not. It is concerning though after so many years in the league.

if this is a preview of the finals, I hope KP sits on the bench every minute jokic is on the court. If he can't play D on the big, he's useless out there.

KP went ice cold about 2/3 of the way through the third. Jrue also bricking everything. What is wrong with them catching the ball tonight. I've seen half a dozen turnovers from literally missing an easy catch. It's like watching little kids "watch the ball into your hands before you move." so disappointing to not show up for a big game.

I can see "hack a Jaylen" being a thing in the playoffs if he keeps missing FTs like this. Then he steals - and can't hit the layup (because he dribbled into traffic). And....somehow we are only down by 6. Strange game. i just had that thought before reading your post. Hack a Jaylen. Ugh! Hate this. Grew up watching Larry bird at 90% every year.

will Jaylen ever commit to improving at the foul line or is this him for his entire career? Putrid...

Lindholm is more on the decline than you wish a 30 year old would be.

Tatum still chokes in the big games. So depressing. He gets tight, and takes horribly ill advised forced shots.

So much whining about LAD. Call me when they win a real World Series. Better yet: I give you LAD and you give me the field for the 2024 WS. Straight up. You taking that? I don't think people are upset about the Dodgers potentially winning a ton of World Series rings in the next few years, I think people are just upset that a team can sign all of the top players and apparently the financials just don't matter. You can argue whether it's good or bad for the game, but it is frustrating that any time a player says "I like LA", you just know that he's signing with the Dodgers.
Could the Red Sox shell out 325 over 12 years? Sure, but players are clearly choosing LA for other reasons, and the Dodgers don't seem to be swayed by the luxury tax at all.
Regardless of who wins the World Series, baseball is less fun when one team buys up all the stars in a single off-season.
An entire system attempting to keep any vague semblance of competitive balance in the sport has been negotiated and re-negotiated over decades now. The Dodgers are breaking that system with their current actions. The sport is broken with this most recent trash move. They should have something massive done to their organization like forfeiting their top ten picks for five years, and their entire front office and ownership should be suspended for five years. The intent of the CBA is clear. If a team blows up their draft budget, there are repercussions. If they exceed the tax thresholds there are repercussions. There damn well ought to be repercussions for colluding with a player to circumvent competitive balance design--it undermines the entire sport. ps, Ohtani is a loser. I've lost all respect for him. He tried to join Trout to make a super team and failed, now he wants to undermine the entire sport of baseball to get a ring. Zero integrity.

Like i said before. Ohtani deferment was for YY. Who's picking us over the Dodgers. Nobody. Talent and Weather alone. They have studs everywhere. We don't even have a handful and they are willing to pay top dollar just makes it unfair at this point. I'm inclined to agree about there being an unfair quality it seems like the league office needs to address. The current stacking of talent via deferment is clearly thwarting the intended balance the CBA is supposed to maintain. Feels like the Dodgers should be punished severely.

Looking forward to rooting against the dodgers for the next several years. They're easily the new Yankees.

Unwatchable play of late. This is one of those moments where it's easy to imagine that Bergeron would have had the gravitas and respect to stop a slide like this, but the team lacks that now.

Tatum is so hard to root for. He goes into baby mode too easily, pouting body language, and misses free throws in crunch time.

I missed the Anaheim game (not sure if that was worse, heard it was bad), but this third period is absolutely putrid. Wotherspoon looks like trash, shattenkirk looks cooked, Pasta makes a nice shot, then does his wooden leg dance that is supposed to be skating, loses it, trips the guy, game over just as we empty the net. come into the third 3-2, lost it 5-4, 3 gooals in ~3 minutes. Ullmark didn't look good during that stretch either. Frustrating game to watch tonight. Mediocre effort second and third.
Carlo did look great in the 2nd though. He's seriously stepped up his play this year so far.

Why can Debrusk not keep his act together? I thought the immaturity pretend to be Seguin days were behind him, but here he goes again. Late for a team meeting. Sweet!

I'm with you on the "vibe" of this offseason, Tizzle. Feels like offseason before last. Loaded up on mediocre vets, no kids even really getting a shot. We actually have a couple of interesting kids right now who need to have an opening when they're ready, but if your nhl roaster is loaded with cheap refuse you have to pay, and you're completely against the cap, unless you get injuries, you don't have room to take on even the cheap first year player money if your cap is already full. That is what lead to Reilly effectively blocking other players. From reading about the P Bruins last year, there are some guys there who most likely still need a little seasoning, but if one makes a breakthrough this year, and you've got shit vets ahead of them, they never get the call. Merkulov, Lysell, Poitras, Brett Harrison, Mason Lohrei all seem like higher ceiling candidates, none of whom are probably ready to be given the full time job out of camp, but none of them are also going to sniff a chance without injuries with this type of roster construction. Especially on D right now, we're overloaded--we almost need to trade a couple away--there's no shot Lohrei gets a look. Yeah, right now we're maybe a signing away from blocking Lauko. And personally I'd rather play Zboril than Forbort. The higher ceiling guys are likely a bit away. I'm no expert (or even close) but people seem to think Merkulov could play right now and that Beecher is close. McLaughlin definitely is blocked right now with those guys. Again, not likely to be stars but could contribute. Harrison seems like he might be close to being able to help. But again, I'm going off what people tell me. Yeah, I've read most of them probably need a little more time. Of course one could always surprise you in camp, but that's the 10% probably outcome, the 90% if that they all need more time at Providence--based on what I've read. Lysell started out like a rockstar, and then going to the world cup or whatever it's called totally derailed him, and he had a crap rest of year. I've heard all of them can use a little more time for the most part, but that a couple are close, and might be ready mid-season. That's what I meant about blocking all of the spots so the mid season call up isn't even possible. You've also got guys like Steen and Heinen and others shoving, and the Bruins under Neely and Sweeney have been more of a seniority based promotion club rather than the hot hand. I don't think they're going to be all that great this year anyway, most project them nipping at the 7-8 spot in the conference if the cards fall the right way. Why force vets into that mess instead of trying to identify your next core behind Mac and Pasta, etc.? Forbort should have been on waivers and dumped down into Providence to get some more time for one of the new guys and see how they respond to a new coach and new system. If you're gonna throw spaghetti against the wall, throw new, young spaghetti, that way if it sticks, it's worth keeping. Sweeney likes to throw the old stuff, and when it sticks you barely want it for a half a season.
