I believe a Red Sox - Dodgers trade makes sense, and I also think that the Red Sox can not appear to be eating salary. With that in mind, a possible proposal would be:
Kenley Jansen and Nazzan Zanetello for Manuel Margot and Maddux Bruns (LHP who is Baseball America’s 10th ranked prospect in the Dodgers system).
The trade saves $6 million and gets a quality pitcher into the Red Sox system.

When a 1/3 of the union reps voted no and the owners voted unanimously yes, it says something about the deal.

The negotiations seem to be going as expected. The “noise” from anonymous sources about the status of the negotiations should not discourage. The basic negotiation is that the owners want the status quo and the players want to change multiple areas. As the season approaches, 2 or 3 primary interests for the players are emerging. There will be agreement soon on these and the other demands will drop away. I wouldn’t be surprised by an agreement by early next week and no impact on the season.

The Red Sox and Yankees have the same pool amount this time $5,179,700.
It just seems that they are taking different philosophies on how to spend.

In a separate question, Goldstein mentions that the minimum for the Red Sox to sign Correa is 10 years and $300 million. While a reasonable expectation, it is too rich for my taste. I would rather spread that AAV on shorter years.

Is it me or do you have a feeling that agents are mentioning the Red Sox just for leverage?

Can the Celtics use the biannual exception and would the use of it lead to Celtics to be hard capped?

Schroeder was seeking a player option in year 2. Once, he agreed to the $5.9 million starting point, I would have offered him a second year player option with maximum 4.5% increase to generate more goodwill with the player. The Celtics only public reason for not doing so was to limit cap obligations for next year. With the recent extensions, the rationale does not seem valid. www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/08/celtics-dennis-schroder-agree-to-one-year-deal.html

With the recent extensions, I am wondering why the Celtics weren’t more willing to negotiate a 2nd year with Dennis Schröder.

The other 2nd round pick is extremely limited as well. Stevens seems to know what he is doing and has a clear plan.
Adam Himmelsbach @adamhimmelsbach · 1h Per source, the Celtics sent the Knicks the top-55 protected 2023 Hornets second-round pick, and *deep breath* the worst of: the worst of OKC/Was or the better of Miami/Dallas

Does the fact that Kemba is already being bought out a sign that Stevens made the right move when he had a chance? If Kemba does sign with the Knicks does that leave the opening for Boston to sign Dennis Schroder or Reggie Jackson?

The Padres were reportedly in trade discussions with the Cubs for Darvish. I wonder how the asking price from the Cubs compares to the package for Snell.

It seems that the Red Sox are chasing guys like Hernandez that can be traded for a couple of low level prospects at the trade deadline (rather than trying to win now).

For those more statistically savvy than I am, would you please comment about the validity of the PIPM and PER stats? A player like Rozier is extremely poor in PIPM but respectable in PER. Is this just a reflection of a good player on a bad team or a bad player on a bad team?

Trade exception can be split but not combined. Therefore, the team could potentially add a $10-$15 million dollar player this year and use the rest next year. Considering that teams (with the exception of Charlotte and Golden State) are nervous about their financial situations, you will see teams wanting to shed payroll.

The delay in the Hayward signing suggests that there are a few moving parts. The first is that Charlotte probably wants the Celtics to take on a salary and not just an exemption to lower their payroll. Second, the Celtics are probably agreeing but want Charlotte to load the contract upfront so they will still get back as large an exemption as possible. Should be interesting how this finishes up.
