If you meant that Flores is older by just under a year when you said "younger by two weeks", you'd be correct. Unless 1994 and 1995 mean the same thing and nobody told me. Also, I'd note that hitting well for two weeks does not rocket one up the site rankings. (6/21-7/5: 40 PA, .167/.342/.167, 7 bb, 8 k; 7/6-7/17: 39 PA, .452/.539/.645, 5 bb, 0 k) He's been impressive, and yeah, he'll at least get back in the top 60 soon most likely, but he's not going to just catapult into the top 40. Hah, you're right. Years 94 and 95 blurred together. As for catapulting, he does have a pretty impressive pedigree. Top reputation as hitter when signed, held back mostly by his knee injury. Still got very big bonus in salary cap era. Plus, Rijo got an advanced placement which suggests something, compared to Margot and even Xander, who did the DSL first. I agree he has pulled his average up considerably, but just on paper, his peripherals seem really strong. I'll admit I love the concept of the hotshot Dominican 16 year old more than they pan out (See, Beltre, Engel and Tejeda, Oscar), and maybe I'm dreaming on him a lot more than needed, but I could see him in Greenville next summer.

I thought Dick Such was their pitching coach now? I don't know Dick Such or his capacity but I do know "Goose" having seen and talked to him multiple times over the years. He is a very visible person, is in and out of the dugout frequently and rivets one's attention. I asked him directly at the dugout and b/t games when Ball would see action. His reply, as stated above, was "before the end of July". Incredibly apt description of Goose. You forgot the fluent Spanish too. Glad to hear he's still around. Was afraid he was gone when they named Such the GCL pitching coach.

JB line drive to rf for single and later scores on SF The woman next to me says it should have been 2b-and she is the daughter of patriots HOF center Jon Morris from the 60s. WMB with a walk. His first inning k was on 3-2.

Raymel Flores' line confuses the hell out of me. 16 strikeouts and 9 walks in 61 PAs, with as many singles as extra-base hits (5 singles, 4 doubles, 1 triple). He struck out a lot and hit for more power than you'd expect given his frame (5'9", 155) last year, too.

Brock hunt zinger good three innings in relief so far. Consecutive walks in one inning but CS and DP helped. Two if hits one a bunt. Mostly 92 93 changes speeds only now and then

Xander hits his first double after 30 games. What do we see in this guy again?!?! : ) The thought is that as he gets older the homers will turn into doubles. As for BB/k lines, although he's hitting .333 with homers, Clint Frazier has 17 ks in about 55 abs, and only 4 bbs.

Is Jordon Austin the new Greek God of Walks? He's more of a Shaq Thompson that can actually hit if anything. He's obviously had way more walks and WAY less strikeouts but he's struck out in 42% of his (albeit super SSS) at bats.

Xander also has a walk plus two groundouts. Two men have to reach for him to bat in the ninth

Rijo's age: He is a actually old for his class, missed being eligible for the previous July 2 by like 5 days, not that its matters but it suggests he was more advanced than his peers. The Red Sox seem to be targeting "advanced" hitters internationally recently and it has been paying early dividends with Margot and Rijo now. Its not out of nowhere but its good that the pre-signing reputation is holding true.

Pawsox hold on for 4-3 win. Chris Martin throws a nice last three innings, throwing 92-93 plus a big curveball, gets the last man out on a fly to deep center with the tying run on 3rd. Xander had several chances at SS, none too taxing, looks competent. Definitely not too big yet. Justin Henry pretty good on D at 2nd, but of course he is very old. Tough night for Middlebrooks, but he had one BB and saw a lot of pitches, and was fine at 3b. That daughter of Patriots C Jon Morris is also a college friend of Bill Simmons from Holy Cross (where her dad and I also went)

A couple of outtakes from the GCL games:
I was sitting next to the dugout and at one point Manager Darren Fenster barked at a player on the bench "Hey_____! What's the count on the batter?" I couldn't hear the reply but Fenster shot back..."You don't guess! Stay in the game! Come up here and sit beside me!"
When first baseman Jake Davies make a diving catch of a bullet down the line someone on the bench yelled out "Hey Jake from State Farm!.... That was 'hideous'!"

David Chester with a 4 for 6 in the DH playing 1B and DH. Now up to .270/.346/.470, with 13 HR and a whopping 71 rbi to lead the organization. I know he lacks athleticism, but there's no doubt the guy can mash. Will he wither on the vine as he advances and faces better pitching?

He's 24, has just over a .800 OPS in low A, and sports a 27% K rate. What do you think? On the plus side he gives Drive fans a reason to come to the park. Calls to mind Sean "Boo" Moore of Lynchburg.

I know that that seems like a high school ball move, but.... these guys are basically high school guys.

Kevin Thomas ?@clearthebases 1m Garin Cecchini triples to right center and scores on a throwing error (i.e. a little league "home run") I had one of those the other day except it was C-league softball, and I got to third on a dropped fly ball and home on the throwing error... at least I'm fast. I proceeded to throw out my arm the next inning while making a toss to(wards) home plate from shallow right field.
