Red Sox trade Iglesias, Wendelken, Rondon & Montas for Peavy
|
Post by taftreign on Jul 30, 2013 22:49:51 GMT -5
Just went to read the ESPN comments and everyone seems to say Detroit won this trade. They love Iglesias. Wait until they see what we unleash at SS/3B in the future when Xander says hi!

Buch Lester Peavy Lackey
is a strong playoff rotation. Add Xander to the lineup and you're set for the playoff run

I guess the red sox are actually confident Bogaerts is a short stop, which is nice.

This is also a vote of confidence for WMB in a way, no? Next year it's Xander at short and WMB at third, instead of Iggy at SS and Xander at third. wmb + Garin

I like the thought of that, I did not want to see the Sox give up on WMB, still think he ends up being a valuable MLB player in the not too distant future.

Want to see the rest of the details of the trade. Right now I would argue if you take Chicago out of the trade the sox got ripped off. (iggy for of prospect and Villarreal)

I like the way that the organization came to a conclusion that Iglesias was not their everyday shortstop and then sold high on him. I don't think that Iglesias is not their everyday shortstop but I like that they were decisive. Best of luck Jose

All the casual Detroit fans are looking at this batting average and player of the month award and drooling... They are in for a rude awakening. If the top 10 stays intact, we made out like bandits. Still saw the tweet 2 pages back that we have a prospect coming to us. That would be some kind of icing.

Wow thank God for bio genesis . This is better than getting Garza. I can't believe our package was better than the others?
Please bring up Xander, JBJ and WMB.
I feel for Workman. I mean no one is gonna crack the rotation next year. No kids. There stuck with Dempster , they have Peavy now. Felix, Lester and Buch. So that's that. No kids need apply!

This thing keeps knocking me out and doesn't let me log back in.
Before it does that again I want to say it seems like a fine trade.
Can't wait for the X-Factor.

I have mixed feelings about this deal. I still think, despite his recent struggles, that Iglesias will wind up being a Gold Glove SS just about every year and he'll wind up being an OK hitter. I would think he'd ping the ball around enough to hit .270 with an OPS between .600 and .650.
It's obvious to me that the one of the Tigers biggest weaknesses is defense and they're kind of doing what the Sox did in 2004 - they're shaking the glove tree to improve themselves and I suspect he'll make a big difference defensively for them.
The Red Sox wasted Iglesias as a 3b. I think expectations would be a lot lower if he had been the SS. As a 3b, he was a liability if he wasn't on his mega-hot streak.
I worry that the Sox will continue the SS merry-go-round if Xander can't handle SS, but I'm going to be optimistic that he can.
I'm not convinced that Jake Peavy will pitch that well for the Red Sox. He's prone to giving up a lot of HRs, but to his credit, he has a really good K/BB ratio, so I'm hopeful that he'll be able to slot in at #2 behind a healthy Buchholz.
Can't blame the Sox for making this move. I hope Jake Peavy is to the Sox what Mike Boddicker was for them 25 years ago. Hope he stays healthy.
I don't think Villareal will amount to anything. Another hard thrower with no concept of the strike zone. Isn't that what Chris Carpenter from the Cubs was?
I'm confused as to why WMB is getting the call instead of Xander and wonder if Xander will get a chance to impact the Sox in September. The only thing that's clear to me is that Xander will get his wish and will go into spring training with the SS job next year, but I still think he's their best option for 3b now.
I think the Sox will still wind up with Michael Young tomorrow, and I guess Brock Holt becomes their utility man? I guess they don't need to make a deal for a reliever because Workman can now shift over? With the way he's been pitching do they want him to shift over to the pen? Wouldn't Dempster make better sense?
And lastly, if Eric Van is correct, I'm glad Rijo remains with the Sox. Those other guys seem like lottery tickets and not much more with Montas being the best of them.

Boston Red Sox ? redsox #RedSox send minor leaguers Wendelken, Montas & Rondon to White Sox; OF Avisail Garcia goes from Tigers to Red Sox to White Sox.

So I'll be the first and seemingly only person on this forum to not like this move. It does make me wonder if they think buch will be back at all. Makes more sense if he won't be. Should have just thrown 5 mil more at peavy in offseason. Here's to hoping I continue my always wrong streak. Peavy is not a free agent this offseason like you seem to imply. He's got $14.5m guaranteed in 2014.

The Red Sox also acquired reliever Brayan Villarreal, who currently is pitching in the minors, from Detroit and will deal at least two lower-level prospects to Chicago, according to sources.
Not really a prospect, 26 and just an arm.
