Maybe the Sox can complete some more promotions like Ranuado and Owens ,maybe Buttrey? Buttrey won't be promoted this year

Might want to keep an eye on what is happening in Lowell:
6 innings and 0 hits from Jamie Callahan!!!! Perfect game so far with 9 K's.

I know he is 22, but have you all been keeping tabs on.....
Player Pos AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG Forrestt Allday RF 3 2 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 .333
13 BB to 11 K and 6 stolen bases already. I'd like to see him pushed in a week or two up to Greenville and see if his game plays there also.

That's two impressive starts for an 18 year old in Lowell. Won't be 19 until 8/24. Greenville staff should be pretty good next year with; Callahan, Buttrey, Ball, Sergio Gomes, Mercedes and maybe McGrath.

Grover gives up two hits in the 9th to blow the perfect game and no hitter for the Spinners. Lowell wins 7-0.

Matt Barnes with his third good start on the year.
He has had his struggles this season, but his peripherals are great and he has shown me at least that he is on the track of becoming an MLB pitcher.

Callahan was a guy I was really interested in this year, and he's starting to settle in. I think if McGrath pitches well the rest of the year, he's a lock for the rotation unless the FO just wants to conserve IP for his 2nd year in the system. Wonder if they'd hold Ball back, considering he'll only pitch 50 innings this year or something crazy between HS/MiLB

They started Henry O in Greenville the year after he was drafted. Despite not getting any innings his draft year. I would think Ball starts in Greenville.

And many other High Schooler's haven't started in Greenville. It's a case by case evaluation. It will depend on his performance during fall instructs and spring training.

True, but we are talking about the seventh overall pick here, not to mention a player who's pretty old for a HS draftee. I certainly hope he's ready for Greenville next year.

I hope he is too - and his age is a good point. But Buttrey is older too (although not the 7th overall pick). Still, I don't think it changes their process, case by case analysis - is ready for Greenville?

Buttrey really disappointed me, only getting through Lowell at the end of his second season. May be a case of Red Sox having the money to spend, and expecting more based on numbers, than based on likelihood/reality. He only got 5 IP last year, as crazy as that is to remember.
FYI Owens had almost twice as many IP as Ball in their senior years. You can't compare them in a linear manner, obviously the throwing program Ball has been on will help, but I could see him getting held back or very closely managed innings early on.
Maybe like they did with Xander... XST right to Greenville?

Jrrusso: I actually think it is more beneficial for Ranaudo to finish the year in Portland. First after last seasons injury his increased workload could lead him to have potential struggles down the stretch which is best handled at his current level. Secondly, and this goes for Barnes as well, the team is in the playoff hunt and that atmosphere is something many minor leaguers don't get to experience. And while Pawtucket also is in the playoff hunt I think a team would like a player to finish what they started.
In regards to Barnes it appears he has made a few corrections and should have his ERA under 4.00 shortly and those who freaked out when it was around 5.00 can officially settle down. Honestly I think the best upside starters are De La Rosa (with a chance he's a future closer instead), Owens and then Barnes. I'd follow them up with a tie in Webster and Ranaudo.

Just to point out this umpire crew at Pawtucket is very bad alot of terrible called 3rd strikes, when the Kelvin Butron(spelling) crew umps the games there is always barking from both teams and usually good for an ejection every other game.
