Eh, I feel like Fisher's tools have been ahead of his production. The power hasn't shown up like people expected it to. The Red Sox model is more for someone who killed it sophomore year and got hurt/underperformed junior year. I'd be able to talk myself into him considering his athleticism, especially if the Sox grabbed him with that second pick, but I'm not in love with the idea.

I thought of it more as a highly rated guy who fell because of injury, he was ranked in some top 10s I had seen, so that's where I was making the connection.
Anyway I don't think he fits much since he is apparently really bad defensively despite being athletic. If the board is gonna be mad about him being picked then write him in as the pick, it's bound to happen.

Do the Red Sox have a "type"? I know there was talk earlier about tall, projectable pitchers, and we always talk about JBJ/Ranaudo and possibly Fisher in those injured top picks, but do they have a type of player they always seem to go after in the later rounds?

Well I don't think they have something where it's set in stone what they do, I think they are capable of doing anything, but they do have some tendencies. Here are some that I feel I've been able to pick up...in no particular order 1) They seem to like size in their pitchers 2) Look for quality off speed rather than arm strength 3) Look for players that may lack physicality, like physical projection 4) "fresh arms" guys that have been in bullpen in the past or haven't thrown a lot of innings or played both ways etc 5) seem to like players that played for the USA program 6) up the middle player, don't know the last time they drafted a guy projected to play at the corners early Cecchini/Vitek I guess. 7) "Diversify your portfolio" this year that they have probably 3 picks in the top 40 you won't see them draft 3 straight of any draft demographic you"ll likely see them diversify their picks like they did in 2011 with a college RHP, a HS Catcher, a HS LHP and a College OF I'm sure there are others that could chime in here and add to this because really there are not a lot of things they are adverse of doing maybe the raw HS athlete but even then they have done it before too.

My draft update
FIU catcher Aramis Garcia is one of the few college hitter having a great open to his season hence he is moving up the draft. He is hitting: .429/.527/.740 5HR, 13 XBH, 15/7 K/BB so far. Doing a twitter search I found that Red Sox Scouts were spotted at his game this weekend, obviously that doesn't mean much since they were at many games this weekend but this is all we have. BA posted their weekly college stats round up and it said he went 5/12, 2 2B, 3 SO, 4 BB over the weekend.
Also Bradley Zimmer continues his strong showing hitting his 4th HR over the weekend.

On Espn.com, Christopher Crawford wrote "If Fisher comes back and continues to hit, it's not unreasonable to expect him to go somewhere on day one, maybe to a team with an extra pick like the Boston Red Sox or Miami Marlins. " I would think that Fisher would be an excellent fit for the Red Sox organization .

I could see it happen, provided they have had enough previous looks but since he has been such a high profile guy I don't think it would be a problem. Obviously they have to like the guy, it's not like they drafted every guy that dropped, just last year they passed on Austin Wilson in the second round after he was projected as a top 10 pick early in the season.
Fisher has one thing that could make him appealing to the Red Sox, the advanced hit tool, but he also has a couple of question marks like his in game power and his defensive ability because despite his athleticism many seem to think he is destine for LF at best maybe even 1B. It will depend how they feel about him.

Free fall....
Michael Newman ?@men658 8h @keithlaw @ncstatebaseball Vandy's Beede has given up 7 in 2+ at #HailState #MSUBaseball
Mike Ferrin ?@mikeferrinsxm 8h Rodon leaves with the bases loaded & 2 outs in the 5th, down 4-0. Fastball Command was a real struggle for him.
Rough night for top college arm. “@ncstatebaseball: New pitcher is #ODonnell. Partial line on #Rodon: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 8 K”

Not that is happens, but I will be dreaming of a situation where Rondon slips past the first five pick and then his bonus demands cause teams with only one first rounder to not gamble on missing out on first round pick. All resulting in Boston nabbing him at 26.
One can dream right?

I'm here to shatter your dreams... It ain't gonna happen.
Plenty of time before the draft for these "rough" starts to not matter in either case.

I'm here to shatter your dreams... It ain't gonna happen. Not just that under the new rules he really can't demand much more than slot. If he did fall it would be in his best interests to wait a year like Appell did.

If he did fall it would be in his best interests to wait a year like Appell did. He can demand as much as he wants. I think the idea (or pipe dream) is that he has high draft demands, then the Red Sox with money from three first round slots, scoop him up late and go way over slot. I agree it won't happen, but that's not to say that he can't demand a ton of money.

A year ago at this time there would have been no way that Manaea would fall as far as he did. Obviously his issue ended up being an injury that required surgery, and there's no indication (yet) that the same is true for Rodon, but, while I definitely don't expect it to happen either, it's certainly not impossible.

Cecchini, Bradley, Ranaudo didn't happen.
Would love for Tyler Beede to fall because of the local boy that wants to play for the Sox angle but wouldn't wish it on him.

I thought this was worth a note: in a recent podcast with Alex Speier, Ralph Treuel, Red Sox pitching coordinator (now entering his 14th year with the team) confirmed what we've always suspected-- this front office loves drafting tall, physical pitchers. His exact quote (around the 6 minute mark): "I talked to [Director of Amateur Scouting Amiel Sawdaye] a few years ago, and I said, if you're going to be looking at them in the eye or looking down, don't sign 'em, just make sure you're looking up and straining your neck." There were the usual caveats about how short pitchers can be effective too (including noting that the best pitcher he's ever seen (Pedro) was a short guy), but Treuel goes on to discuss (at around the 7 minute mark) why they like tall pitchers: because they generally hold up better over a long season and are more likely to be able to hold their velocity deep into games.
