That was a rough inning. A lot of hard contact.

Lester lost his stuff there. If it isn't an one inning affair, we're toasted.

Whew, frightening inning from Lester there ... let's hope he takes care of whatever was wrong with him in that frame.

The good news is Lester is on track to go 8. 1 run in 4 innings is good and Lester just went through the heart of their order. If you're going to give up homers, best to do it when no one is on base.

When will they stop being strike out by looking or swinging for out? Can't they getting at least make an contact with ball for play? The Red Sox are a good offensive team because (a) they take a lot of walks (5th highest BB% in the league) and (b) they hit for a lot of power (second best ISO in the league). However, both those attributes also correlate with a lot of strikeouts (patience leads to deeper counts, power leads to swings-and-misses, both lead to Ks). The Red Sox thus had the 9th highest strikeout percentage in baseball. In October (cold air) and in the playoffs (better pitching), they're going to strike out a lot. It's frustrating as a fan, but it doesn't mean they're a bad offensive team. This was the best offense in mlb this year. Struggles in a small sample size im not worried about.

I don't think he threw an offspeed pitch that whole half inning. Meanwhile... Drew almost nuts one. That's three rows deep in July.

Xander Bogaerts: future great MLB shortstop? Or future greatest MLB shortstop?
edit: but my god, Jon Lester is useless with a bat.

Watching a pitcher bunt. This is what playoff baseball is all about?

At least we know the Sox won't have to bid against any NL teams for Lester if he becomes a FA. He's never going to do that willingly

They needed one bad there. Ellsbury looked overmatched.

Man, both starters should've given up some more runs in those two half-innings ... but the Sox should've had a couple of 'em. Wainwright didn't look good.
