I haven't figured out how to quote someone. What I got looked intimidating! I like this new site, but it could use a little sprucing up. In any case, Top right corner of the post you want to quote is the "quote" button. I'm still trying to figure out how to tell what posts in a thread you've read and which ones you haven't. I like the new site too but I think going to phpbb would've been better. Other than the initial cost it would've been free and there has to be a member or two around here that could've set it up and fixed anything that came up. I know sites that haven't been touched in years.

I know its still early, and it's never "must lose" if you are still mathematically in it, but this is as close to a "must-lose" game as we've seen. Two game swing vs. Toronto. With the new limits on buying drafts (which led to much of Boston's success in the draft despite its weaker draft position), we're back to winning talent by drafting better than the rest. One major component is drafting #7 rather than #10.

Dear Ben, PLEASE fire Bobby Valentine!!! If you had been watching this afternoon's game. He just pitch hit for Jose Iglesias with the count 2 and 2 on Iglesias because Cirraco stole 2nd base. A win means nothing. A moment to allow Iglesias to learn and get some confidence.....priceless. Oh by the way, not only did he tell Jose he can't do it by taking him out, Nava grounded out to the pitcher.

I've seen enough of Iglesias. He doesn't belong in the batters box at the big league level.

Scott Lauber @scottlauber Bobby V on pinch-hitting for Iglesias, mid-at-bat: “He’s gotten one hit so far. It’s not kindergarten here." #RedSox'

^ I know it's happened before but I think it was a first --viewing it-- for me. Nava had to swing at anything close and he looked ...uncomfortable.

I've seen enough of Iglesias. He doesn't belong in the batters box at the big league level. That is a very short-sided opinion. The kid needs to have a chance to learn and make adjustments. In a site primarily focused on prospects, your statement is just plain wrong.

In a site primarily focused on prospects, your statement is just plain wrong. Yup, he needs to learn and make adjustments. And it should be done at a level where he is not completely over matched. All he is doing right now is learning how to fail. Continuing this short sighted approach will ruin this prospect.

Iglesias has close to 800 PAs in Pawtucket. At some point, we're going to have to see how he looks at the major league level, whether he can make adjustments, if his bat speed is good enough to hit well-located major league fastballs, whether he can improve his plate discipline, et cetera. Better to do it now, at the end of a lost season with minimal media/fan pressure (or rather it would be if Valentine wasn't intent on winning games in an attempt to retain his job). He's looked awful so far, but the best teaching moments come when you struggle, and it's not like relegating him to pinch-runner/defensive replacement duty is going to make him a better player either.

All he is doing right now is learning how to fail. Continuing this short sighted approach will ruin this prospect. While I think this reasoning is often valid, I don't think it applies to Iglesias right now. He's very confident, and he's very ambitious, and a couple of weeks playing regularly over his level at the end of the season is not going to break him. If handled right, it serves as both a carrot (he wants badly to be in the majors) and a stick (the best way for him to go into the offseason, I think, is precisely by experiencing the ways in which he's falling short of being able to play in the majors). Every time he's started to make progress in the minors in terms of having good at-bats, he's gotten hurt, and not playing regularly seemed to negate the work he'd done in taking the right approach at the plate. Bringing him up when the games were meaningless, and not playing him at all for a few days, and then not playing him regularly--that's a problem, IMO. I think he would benefit in the long run from a couple of weeks of playing every day.

I believe if Willie Mays came up and Bobby Valentine was the manager, he would have been sitting down for a long spell after his 1st 5 games. Willie in his first 5 games was 0 for 12. Dustin Pedroia stunk up the joint for 6 weeks. Thank God Terry Francona was the manager!
Omar Vizquel was absolutely terrible for several seasons, and someone had the "sense" to stay with him and give him confidence. And we have folks who want him to go back immediately to AAA where he has already had over 800 at bats. Anyone who likes to see a kid like Iglesias succeed needs to give the kid a LONG chance before ordaining him as over-matched. Bobby Valentine has not only "burned" his last bridge with me......he has blown it up. This kid could be special, but how would anyone really know after the way Bobby V. has handled his promotion right from the start. I'm NOT advocating that Aviles does not play any more this season, but Jose Iglesias should be playing short at least 2 out of 3 games till the end of the season. Aviles can and should play some 3rd. No reason Pedro should play everyday as Chris Hatfield mentioned in an earlier post.
As a long-time follower of Red Sox prospects, taking out Iglesias in a meaningless game with 2 outs and a 2 and 2 count on him was criminal. Valentine could care less about the future of this franchise or Jose Iglesias.

It would have allowed Bard to not start. That would have helped. Not really. Bard vs. Aceves was the decision for the final rotation spot. They didn't pull Aceves from it to close - Bard was given the spot and Aceves was put into the closer spot.

It's the only race that matters - the battle for a top 11 draft spot (as of 9/15am): #6 MIA -- (wins tiebreaker with any teams other than SD/KC based on 2011 record)#7 BOS 1.0 GB#8 KC 1.5 GB (wins tiebreaker with any other team (tied with SD) based on 2011 record)#9 PIT (compensation pick due to failure to sign Mark Appel) #10 TOR 2.0 GB #11 NYM 2.5 GB (wins tiebreaker with TOR)#12 SEA 5.0 GB (wins tiebreaker with SD)#13 SD 5.0 GB Note: the top 11 draft picks are protected and cannot be lost. It should be noted that BOS loses the tiebreaker with any team. Those last 15 games against the best of the AL East.....this team may have a legit shot of getting into the top 5. I know it's an outside chance, but that's 15 games of ass kicking ready to get served up......

I love losses like this. Lester pitches well, and the only players of any value on the team--Ellsbury and Pedroia--have nice games. Do this more often.

I sure hope that the Red Sox can Bobby V right before the last game of the year...he has proven this year that he is terrible communicator, horrific with media relations, doesn't appreciate the sanctity of the clubhouse, and hedoesn't appear to want to develop young talent. There would be no reason to bring him back for 2013 as he has pretty much been a disaster on all fronts, even if you concede the injuries which you could also point to other teams like the Yankees which also had significant injuries.

he doesn't appear to want to develop young talent. Now from what I heard the whole problem with him and Youk was that he wanted WMB from the start. He's somewhat responsible for us finding out we may have something in Morales and he was an Iglesias supporter in spring training. Sending a kid out there setting him up to fail because he may or may not be ready isn't go to help his development. Getting some exposure then having some time to absorb it can help you make adjustments faster sometimes than having that exposure jammed down your throat.

I hear all that, but then you have all the stupid things that he says like "nice inning, Will" "its not kindergarten here" etc. It is one thing to pitch hit for Iglesias in the middle of the count, but to publically state "its not kindergarten" serves no purpose than to embarass the player and keep the press talking about yet another BobbyV off the wall comment when it is (hopefully) a forgone conclusion that he will be sent packing within 48 hours of the end of the 2012 season. It was a mistake to hire BobbyV and he is proving how wrong it was with each passing moment. It appears that he is building up for a grand finale when he lets loose on the entire Red Sox organization once he is sent packing.

We should fire Valentine in Spring Training 2012 and hire Dave Martinez.
Somehow I feel like I'm recycling the same old comments...
