Some of the Ground Rules are applied loosely in here, as we understand that there is a tendency to want to react (or overreact) to every play of a Sox game with one line reactionary posts. Those posts are okay in the Red Sox Series threads to a point - we certainly appreciate the passion. Just try not to overdo it, and try to maintain some semblance of reason. Can't believe the first series is against the team that I'm blacked out for on mlb.tv down here in Durham, NC, 5 hours away from Baltimore. Grumble, grumble. At least I get two of the games though. What is absurd is that I could drive an hour away, park on the side of the road and watch the game on my phone. How does that make any sense to anyone?
But go Sox! Feels like I've been waiting my whole life for tomorrow.

It is hard to predict baseball or anything for that matter, but there may be a few safe bets, - the game thread. Thus, we are sure to hear:
X Man strikes out on a 3 and 2 count, " What an abat". Middlebrooks strikes out on an 3 and 2 count, " So much for spring training."
After Lester walks his first batter, " Do you think his contract is weighing on him."
Big Papi strikes out, " Boy, are you fat."
Gomes comes into the game to pinch hit for Nava, as a left hander is now on the mound. " Farrell has to get his best friend into the game."
Farrell makes a pitching change. " Fking idiot. He may be good with the players, but he can't manage."
The top of the lineup does not get on base in the early innings. " Should have opened the vault for Ellsbury."
Red Sox fall behind. " The season is over."

Woo-hoo! IT'S TIME!!! This team's going to be a monster that lays waste to the AL all year.
Going to Thursday's game ... very excited to see a game.

Wasn't Selig supposed to address the black out rules a couple of years back?
Here in VA, on my dish I can get all the NESN games EXCEPT when they play Baltimore, home or away. To see those I have to watch my cable outlet on MASN. The other question is why they would black out a Baltimore game in Boston?
Maybe the new commish will change that. It will give him something to do.

They aren't blacking out the Boston game. They're blacking out the Baltimore game. That makes sense. The Saturday blackout rules have been changed. You can now stream games you can't see on television.

Even if the tweet-er was implying transportation speed would be the issue, the real takeaway is that it's looking pretty unlikely that he'll make it into the lineup tomorrow.

Yeah I know, I'm just being unnecessarily snarky. Though his MRI was scheduled for this afternoon. If he checked out fine and felt better, my guess is that the schedule would be a dinner in town and then onto a flight, where a limo would be waiting to take him to the team's Baltimore hotel. Since he wouldn't have to wait in lines like us real people, he could finish dinner in Boston at 8:30 and be at the hotel in Baltimore by midnight.

My guess is that Victorino winds up on the DL. With the Sox defensive alignment the way it is, they cannot afford to have Victorino lingering for any substantial amount of time or we're looking at Gomes/Sizemore/Nava as the outfield alignment which is kind of a scary thought. I think we'll see Jackie Bradley Jr in RF tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe some good will come out of all this. Perhaps Bradley will establish himself in 2014 AND Grady Sizemore can have a helluva comeback. If that happens and the Sox get enough production out of Victorino/Nava/Gomes (and even Carp) then Victorino's periodic health issues can do the Sox some good. It's up to Bradley to seize the opportunity.

If Bradley's in RF, the batting order change is easy: Bradley goes in at 9, and 3-9 all move up 1. Nava, Pedroia, Ortiz, Napoli, Sizemore, Bogaerts, AJP, WMB, JBJ.
If Gomes is in the lineup, it's a bit less predictable. Gomes hit 2nd vs a RHP just twice last year, so that would appear to be unlikely. I'd guess he'd hit 6th or 7th in the above type of lineup. (Gomes rather than Carp in part because Tillman has a career reverse split. Ortiz is 1/16, 4 BB, 4 SO, and WMB is 0/14, 2 SO. The guy who owned him? Victorino was 2/8, BB as a LHB, 2/3, HR as a RHB.)

If his MRI showed nothing remarkable, Shane, with another day's rest, could be in the lineup for Wednesday's game. The team could get by for a game with Nava, Gomes, Grady and Carp.

Can we get by for 40 games of that and another 40 games of Nava, Gomes, Victorino and Carp, with some of those game on the same day?

They aren't blacking out the Boston game. They're blacking out the Baltimore game. That makes sense. The Saturday blackout rules have been changed. You can now stream games you can't see on television. For people with blackout problems, look into proxy servers. I've never used them for this but at least one person here has. Basically you connect to a proxy in an unblocked area and that proxy connects to whatever you want that's blocked and you're good to go. Let Google be your guide and if free ones are too slow you can subscribe to private ones fairly cheap.

They are in the same situation today as they would have been had Sizemore never existed to this team, which is what we all expected headed into the year. Decent article on Sizemore's rehab... Not much depth, but it does talk about working out 6 days a week consistently. Now I get workouts are controlled, but let's not pretend baseball is insanely taxing on the body. www.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/alex-speier/2014/03/29/man-plan-how-framingham-native-charted-grady-s

Baseball not "insanely taxing on the body"? Then why so many injuries. Believe one has to take into account almost playing everyday and traveling,-- mental and body fatigue. Don't forget a lot of the drug stuff was related to recovery and remaining alert. When you are tired, you are more susceptible to injuries, not that this is the sole explanation.

I think it depends on the type of player and their position. Sizemore only played at top speed, on the bases and in the field. Baseball doesn't have the same cardiovascular load as basketball or soccer except in short bursts. But those bursts can be demanding. And, for the best players, there are a range of demands on flexibility: running, stretching, falling, sliding, pivoting, and more. Given his past injuries, I can understand the training regime.

I don't understand why push Victorino? Just Dl him. It's a long year. Chances are this wont the the last time he has an issue. They have a capable player to help out.
