Should be an interesting pitching day.
I know, they all are but this one more than most.

Any chance that Trey Ball sees some action today, or too soon?

Is anyone alarmed at how crappy Ranuado has been so far? Another hyped prospect, or just one of those bad streaks?

It's possible that Trey Ball might be Greenville's TBD starter

It's possible that Trey Ball might be Greenville's TBD starter Alcantara/Smith today, Kukuk tomorrow, Ball/Gomez Sunday is my understanding.

If he is to become a set up dude, he better improve his control and command

Now that everyone's healthy, that PawSox rotation is an anchor of every day of prospect watching ... RDLR, Workman, Webster, Barnes, Ranaudo ... interesting guys right down the line.

No question and if that's how they decide (which seems obvious to me), they will have to find room in Portland for Hernandez. They also have excellent pitching (especially the pen) but do have a few questionable pitchers as well. I'm guessing there are a few guys in Portland that may be sweating right now because Salem is starting to stack up below as well.

He spent a good deal of last year there as well, so not really a surprise there.

Then who is moving down to make room for Barnes on the 25 man ? Also, if the plan was to move Hernandez back to the pen, why keep Barnes in XST when he was physically ready quite a while ago. Don't forget the Sox cleared out two 'soft toss' guys this off season.

Meaning Portland still has McCarthey holding a spot for Diaz or Johnson.

LOL, streak alive, mookie led off with a single to left off a fastball.
Pena not at all yet like his last start where he totally dominated.

Meaning Portland still has McCarthey holding a spot for Diaz or Johnson. Nate Reed is more likely cut there but not from the rotation. McCarthy had a nice outing last time. tweet: Brendan McGair @bwmcgair03 Ok, here we go: Kehrt to the DL, Meneses to Portland, Boscan to extended spring Coyle back in Portland's lineup. Pitching duel in Portland. 4-4 game and there's only one out for Portland in the first inning. Box scores way behind but 6-4 Dogs after 3, Pena has settled down nicely but not as dominant as last time out. Spring with a 2R HR., Ramos, Shaw both 2-2 with a double (might be wrong on Shaw). Pena used 38 pitches in the first inning. He's at 59 after 4. Down 8-6 now, Pena gave up 2 singles then 2 HRs, still in the game in the fifth. Shaw now 3-3,he's playing 3B with Coyle DH. Mookie 1-3 (two lightly hit ground outs). In Salem, Johnson gave up a hit, In Salem, Greenwell with another HR, Witte also homered. Ramos now also 3 for 3. They are using a leftside shift on him. The Yankees are apparently going to do this systemwide. Crap, had hopes, one out bases loaded, mookie at bat. 5-4-3 DP. Pena out of the game, stark contrast from his last outing. Ramirez 1-2-3. Dogs down 8-7. In Greenville, Witte 2-2, both HRs, his first two of the year. Alcantara just gave up his 1st hit in the 4th. Barnes still in Pawtucket game after 81 pitches. Kind of obvious he was more than ready at XST. All four of our affiliates have a staff ERA in the 3's. Yankees (AA) reliever Manny Barreda impressive, 3 quality pitches and he's throwing strikes. The wheels fell off for Alcantara in the fifth but nice beginning, Miles Smith in. Portland pulled ahaead but had two runners non-forced thrown out on the bases last inning. Betts with a second single, his 10th mulit-hit game of 17. He then stole second base, advanced to third on a Marerro deep fly to center and scored the tying run on a groundout to second. 10-10, Ramos came close. was 4-4 with runners on first and second. Yankees have been playing a left field shirt all night. Henry smoked a liner to RF but was an atom ball. Still 10-10 tp of the 9th. Kurcz in his second appearance since Tommy John nowhere near as sharp or fast as his first start. 93MPH, and erratic location. Allowed two inherited runners to score then left in 9th one out, bases loaded. Another nice outing for Johnson. 6IP, 4H, 1BB, 8K, 0R. Nice to see the Ks. Portland down 14-10 in the 9th, odd stats, Trenton with 9 2 out runs. Coming into the game, the Dogs hadn't allowed an inherited runner to score all year. Tonight all 5 of the inherited runners scored. Game over. Betts 2-6 but I don't think I've ever heard Mookie with 2 ground outs, tonight he had 4. An observation, Wilkerson and Hissey have been outstanding, similar to Linares a few years ago.

Brentz in a nice little run, over 300 for last ten games, and he has walked 11 times this year out of 72 abats. Believe that's an improvement.

Barnes through 4 innings had 8 ground balls, 3 flies or liners, 1 popup. Gave up 5 balls in the air in the 5th to ruin his ratio and yield his one earned run, but he was presumably tiring. So, despite just 2 K's, the 5 6 2 1 2 2 line is promising.

He's got a cannon for an arm but not the greatest footspeed. His reads look ok but I haven't watched him beyond spring training. Right field in Fenway demands a bit given that the corner adds a bit to the ground you'd normally have to cover in other parks. But he could easily master left field I think.

That was really just his last three games before tonight (plus one where he didn't bat), 5/10, 2B, 2 BB, 4 SO. The rest of the "nice little run" was .227 / .292 / .273.

Hey Eric, at least it's something. What, I am being an optimist.

Hey Eric, at least it's something. What, I am being an optimist. Well, Brentz has more than doubled his walk rate and is striking out less. He's also hitting for less power, though.

And he has hit safely 8 out of his last ten games. I believe that is a nice little run. I like Eric. He likes to attack even if he is a little silly at times, but aren't we all. Eric reminds me of Sheldon Cooper.
