What a pitching day. Can't wait to see how Johnson performs at a higher level.

FOUR lefties!! Counting Lester and Doubront in Boston....what other organization has such a glut of lefty starters in the majors and coming fast? It has seemed that the Sox have actually gone the extra mile to draft and develop good left-handed pitching.

What a pitching day. Can't wait to see how Johnson performs at a higher level. I'll second that. He hasn't gotten quite enough buzz on this board, in my opinion. That's understandable since he had a bit to overcome after getting hit in the face. The little I've seen of him - all video - he's got the chops to make it to the majors as a back of the rotation guy, at a minimum.

Furthermore, "De La Rosa" is Spanish for "of the Rose," i.e., a member of the Rosicrusians, a sinister (Latin for "left") secret society. Seriously, this is, to me, a key start for Rubby, who after four totally brilliant starts was meh last time. Was that the start of a down stretch, or just one of those days? If he can bounce back and dominate this evening, that's a very good sign.

Owens gave up another run on a hbp, double and wild pitch, after dogs tied it in the top half.
You hate to see that.

Good to see Mookie pull out of his extended slump of yesterday.

BJ K's his first batter in AA. 1-2-3 first inning.

Johnson lost his perfect game on a throwing error then the no-no then the shutout in the 3rd.
Betts with hits and steals in both games.
Shaw keeps rolling, a double in both games.
I think there's a box score error from yesterday. Wilkerson and Betts had a double steal in the fifth which doesn't show up.

Travis Shaw is really hot. Does he get back to prospect status?

He's closer to his ceiling and, because of that, he may leapfrog Owens to Pawtucket. There's damn near a logjam at the higher levels of the system. Coming to you from the great northwest

In the last ten games Travis Shaw has out hit Mookie by nearly 100 points, .405 to .318. His OPS is something like 1.111.

Shaw might have been sulking a bit out of the gate for not making the PawSox, but whatever the reason for the slow start he has awaken. Nice to see.

At the beginning of the season, I was hoping that Shaw would do well enough this year that he could be viewed as an adequate AAA depth player. At this pace he might make the 40-man roster at the end of the year, or he might be in the gap between good enough to be taken in the Rule 5, but below 40-man. There were already 5 from the 2011 draft that will need to be on the 40-man, now there may be another 2. But I suppose this a good problem to have.

Very early thoughts: Will be added: Matt Barnes, Blake Swihart Probably gets added: Noe Ramirez Borderline: Henry Ramos, Travis Shaw, Sean Coyle, Keury De La Cruz, Luis Diaz, Miguel Celestino (of these guys, I think Shaw and Coyle are probably a bit ahead of the other guys) There are 10 free agents on the 40-man roster (which is at 39, but doesn't include Steven Wright). Ideally, some of those MLB roster spots get filled by guys already on the 40-man roster like Vazquez and Britton, or maybe some of the Pawtucket starters, so there should be plenty of roster spots to protect who they need to protect.

Ah, I did not realized Owens and Mookie don't need to be added for another year. It would be nice if Shaw has a stellar year and gets added to the 40 man. On the other topic of today, I think Owens is OK. Last year, Owens was pulled early from several games when he got rung up for runs. This year he has managed to grind out 5 IP even if he gave up runs. This is as important in a starting pitcher as having stellar stats and outings. For 21/almost 22 year old pitcher to be doing even just OK in AA is a big deal. Everything still points to a 4/5 starter with upside of 3, which runs $12M/yr in a free agent.

Nice line for Ball alll things considered. Two run homer in the first but was pretty solid outside of that....no BB's and 6k's.
