I'm sure Marrero is happy May is over. Had a real promising April, but struggled hard last month.

I'm sure Marrero is happy May is over. Had a real promising April, but struggled hard last month. Struggling since he missed a few games when he jammed his wrist. I don't know if that affected it. He doubled in his first AB today. Ranaudo off to a shaky start. -- Worked his way out of a jam only allowing 1 run but 35 pitch inning.

@seadogsradio Mookie Betts with a terrific read on a fly-ball to RCF…hit hard, was off right away and made the catch with ease.

Witte with a double to drive in a run, rather hot now and hitting over 360. The 24 yo is 57 on the prospect list.

So Stephen Drew manages to push his average to .154 with a double. Marrero also had a double but complemented it with two singles to get to .265. It will be a tough call which of these promising young players to call up to fill the glaring hole on the left side of the infield....

Makes perfect sense to call up the guy who has never played above AA instead of the guy who was a key part of last year's World Series championship team - for almost any reason, but especially if based on BA over a week's worth of games.

Matt Eddy ?@matteddyba 54m
Mookie Betts (52), Joey Gallo (49) and Kris Bryant (47) lead minors in runs created. Not a bad Minor League Player of the Year race.

Reed Gragnani has been hitting very well this season with little fan fare, .341/.429/.453. Granted he is a 23 year old in High A but I imagine when promotions start he will get a chance in Portland with a majority side of a split with Coyle at 2b.

Right. How many AB's has Drew had to put up that .154 avg? My point exactly. The non-sarcastic version of my post goes like this: why don't they make sure Drew is actually ready, since Brock Holt is red-hot right now and Boston doesn't actually have an urgent need at SS/3B? (I think it should be obvious that I don't take BA seriously as a stat, whether over 1 week or over 1 season.)

Maybe because that's not what Drew agreed to when he agreed to the assignment in the first place ?

Maybe because that's not what Drew agreed to when he agreed to the assignment in the first place ? Who knows? I don't know what they may have discussed in private, all I know is the Red Sox are paying Drew ten million dollars, so they should have some say in the matter as far as I'm concerned.

That's not likely how Drew/Boras, the player's union or the Red Sox would view it. It's not likely what was agreed to. It's like Farrell said, "It's not a tough decision, we signed Drew to be our shortstop, he's our shortstop."
ADD: The Red Sox do have a say. Almost 100 % guaranteed their say will be that they will honor whatever commitment they made to Drew. I'm pretty sure that it's a minimum platoon shortstop commitment. Farrell has already alluded to the potential of sitting Drew against lefties.

Of course, there are no righties on the bench at the moment to platoon for him, unless you think they're going to keep Cecchini up and send down Holt (or worse, use Herrera only on his worse side).

Does Drew get paid full value while he's in the minors?

Does Drew get paid full value while he's in the minors? No, I don't know where I read it but $10m is based on his being on the roster Monday. It works out to 13.9 something prorated but exactly $10m if he's there Monday.

yeah, then it's probably a done deal that he's called up today. He's certainly more valuable a piece than Cecchini at this point. Plus, the latter needs the development time. Drew will probably be fine... or we'll cut him.
