Colome will be a nice test for the PawSox.
He's making his second start of the year after a 50-gamer for PEDs. Last time out he went 5.2-3-0-0-3-9 against Lehigh Valley.

Colome Mookie will be a nice test for the PawSox Colome. Fixed. Also, it's completely stupid and not a real comparison at all, but I'm totally going to compare how Felix does tonight with Owens yesterday.

They are going about this Doubront rehab the wrong way. They need to give him some action out of the bullpen so he can replace Mujica.

Food for thought: why the faith in Nava, but not Mujica or Capuano?

Food for thought: why the faith in Nava, but not Mujica or Capuano? It's not that I have faith in Nava. It's that it's absurd not to find out by making him rot on the bench. I mean what is the worst thing that can happen by benching Gomes? We get terrible production from our OF? Mujica seems to be the same guy that the Cardinals left off their playoff roster. Workman/RDLR seem to be better starters than Doubront. Doubront seems like he'd be better than Mujica or Capuano in the bullpen. IOW, I'd like to do something different than what we've been doing.

I'm wondering if there will be ML scouts at Portland today. Cost controlled lefties are always a valuable commodity. Good pic of Asuaje (unknown photog - EJarinco tweet:

Mookie is playing CF tonight! It will be interesting to monitor how many games he plays in the OF versus 2 base.

Tim Britton ?@timbritton 4h Red Sox activate and option Steven Wright. Lavarnway to the 60-day DL to make room.
Brendan McGair ?@bwmcgair03 4m To get Steven Wright on the @pawsox roster, Brandon Snyder was placed on the 7-day DL (plantar fasciitis). #redsox
Mookie with a bloop pop single to right field(just out of the reach of the 2Bman) to lead off the game. Defensive swing on a 1-2 pitch. Erased on a Cecchini DP. Colome throws mid 90's heat with movement. Looks tough.
Portland delayed but Felix warming now.
Felix looked good 1st inning, threw a lot of strike curves, three groundouts.
2nd inning mostly fastballs, 89 was a given speed. 87 for a cutter. Still throwing strikes.

2-0 Erie 3rd. Felix mostly BABIPed. Only 1 decently hit ball to left. Mixing FB and curves, generating bouncy grounders. 2 errors but runs earned. The 2nd error worked out good, Erie ran themselves out of the inning, overly aggressive.
4th inning liner deflected off Doubront's leg to end the inning. He limped a little back to the dugout.
Portland just got their first hit (Welch triple). Opponent Collier locating off speed stuff well. Seems to have a very nice change.
Doubront done 43 pitches/ 31 strikes. I had thought Johnson was piggy back but McCarthy is relieving.

Will Steven Wright ever get serious consideration for a rotation spot?

Will Steven Wright ever get serious consideration for a rotation spot? Seems like he would line up nicely with Workman for a spot start during his suspension right now.

Hinojosa looks like he tried to do a Gronk spike impression on the mound there.

Hinojosa is wilder than a knuckleballer.
Sac fly to shallow center, Mookie's throw had some zip but was slightly off the mark.

Are we sure they have the right Luis Basabe ? The one that is in the boxes is listed at our site as a second baseman but the one that is playing is playing CF which is what the other one plays.
Either way, unusual start:
.500/.400/1.000/1.400. He must have a lot of sac flies.
Welch has two triples tonight. He's been hot since Shaw was promoted and he's in the lineup everyday. Portland up 5-2 in the eighth.

Wilkerson triples to lead off the 9th, Mookie walks on 4 pitches. Unfortunately followed by 2 K and a flyout. PawSox lose it 2-0. Seadogs with a big 8th to pull ahead 5-2.
