Workman's fastball velocity is trending in the wrong direction. I have serious doubts about his ability to stick as a starter while sitting 89. Interesting. Where exactly has Doubrant been at this year and about half of last and Workman throws strikes? Doubrant started out as a SP who threw 92-4, then 91-3, now doesn't even sit at 90. I am fed up with the "he's front of the rotation potential".

Stephen Drew, Kendrys Morales with no minor league ramp up, steps into Twins line-up and is currently 2-5. No oblique complaints either. True but Morales doesn't come from a family with a history of entitlement issues relating to being paid by the Sox without really earning it.

Friend of the program Anthony Rizzo with a very nice 3/4 night with 2 doubles and a homer.

Workman hit 93 on the Orioles broadcast gun... I'll take Workman over an injured Doubront at this point.

This game is too close and this park is too small.

I keep looking at the Phillies roster and wondering what in the world Ben and Amaro might be cooking up. You don't see in season trades between two last place teams very often.

Hoping Pierzynski & Sizemore get on here so Farrell can call for the two out bunt with Herrera.
ADDED: My bad - I should've known Pierzynski would swing at ball 4.

Come on, guys..relying on your individual strengths, to explain or understand a position, is part of the human condition. I am not against any of the saber stuff and find it interesting. What's disingenuous is to espouse your concepts as the only truth, and that's how it comes across to people who may not have that type of mathematical or theoretical background. In the end, we are all just a random combination of the stuff that makes up matter in the universe..with a limited shelf life. Is it worth it to belittle people who don't share your view?

Logic goes out the window among the overly passionate. This is why they say love is blind.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as belittling. I actually don't share mgoetze's certainty about some of this stuff, as SABR orthodoxy has shown itself to be quite unstable. New sources of data and analysis constantly challenge my deeply-held beliefs about how baseball works, and not even Tango et al. should be the end-all be-all of baseball analysis. My point was just that you're probably not going to change someone's mind if that person is pretty set in their ways, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to just keep repeating yourself to no avail. Once you've reached a dead end, it's probably best to just move on, especially if further discussion isn't generating any new insight.

jmei...for the record...I don't ever feel like you come across that way. It reallyt wasn't an individual indictment on anyone...more of a defense for different viewpoints.

jmei what is your background? On the one hand you seem quite interested in statistics and on the other you seemed quite passionate about law and contract.

Moving along, is it a coincidence or is maybe Pierzynski better than projected as a pitch caller. He seems to be doing just fine with the new guys and they seem to be just going with his fingers. Pitching with pace.
Mark me down as not against Pierzynski. I'd rather have him than Salty.
Come on Sox. Bring the O's down a peg. We may need it.

Actually, I really do believe that there are right and wrong answers to questions of baseball tactics and strategy. I am sorry...if it was the case...it would have the same construct as 1 +1 =2 I don't understand. 2 is merely a symbol which is defined as "1+1" so "1+1=2" is a tautology. What is this "construct" you mention?

By the way, there are a whole lot of teams still putting their 1st or 2nd best hitters up 3rd.

MASN announcers jinxed AJ there by saying "he's killing it back there" shortly before that popup.
