What an awesome win. Always good to stick it to the division rivals.

Good win. Let's drive in some more runs next time. Baby steps.
Good outing Workman.

I am sorry...if it was the case...it would have the same construct as 1 +1 =2 I don't understand. 2 is merely a symbol which is defined as "1+1" so "1+1=2" is a tautology. What is this "construct" you mention? It is not a symbol it is a mathematical formula..and the formula of 1 + 1 = 2 can be proven, by taking an 1 apple and adding 1 apple and you have 2 apples. And as far as humans are concerned it is universal. Maybe ants use a different formula..so you may have a point there.

Not questioning Workman isn't a hard thrower. I am saying Workman will give you his best effort every time, throws strikes, has 3 good pitches and is consistent.
Doubront on the other hand has shown up out of shape, has had issues now with that tired shoulder for some reason. Now this mysterious appearing injury. Loss of velocity 2 seasons ago for ? reason. Labors to get through 5IP, sometimes taking upwards of 85-90pitches.
All those issues to me spell more than enough to cut the rope, or all ties. Especially when the team has so many other young kids ATM.

They stick to feeling and tradition. I used to be one of them.

Tonight was Workman's longest (and best) outing of his young career. As long as he continues to progress, there's no reason to look back. It's going to be a tough spot for Doubront once he returns.

Nick Cafardo ?@nickcafardo 13s Lots of scouts at Sox-Os game. Cards, white sox, blue jays, brewers, marlins, phillies, padres, angels here in full force. I wonder if this is why Sizemore played center again tonight or if it is just Workman they are here for? Or just a bird ?

I wonder if this is why Sizemore played center again tonight or if it is just Workman they are here for? Or just a bird ? Someone else earlier pointed out that Phillies scouts have been a mainstay at 6 of the last 7 Sox series. Among these supposed suitors, they and the Padres stand out as non contenders. The rest of these teams are within 5 games of their respective division lead. Based on this, I don't think it's unreasonable to surmise that the Sox have put out feelers to the effect that they're likely to be sellers AND buyers come the trade deadline. It's an interesting position to be in and should make for a fun July.

Maybe just due diligence for a team that may become sellers down the line. Workman would be one of the most valuable pieces that the front office may deem to be a tradable asset. I prefer to keep him in the bottom of the rotation as he has shown nothing but consistent output in whichever role he's been placed. Quite a few of those teams could use a bullpen arm as well on a night that Miller, Tazawa and Uehara threw.
Add: I agree with django that the team is only an extended run of winning baseball for the rest of June from being buyers.

On a per-inning basis, Koji Uehara is the single most dominant pitcher who has played for the Red Sox since Pedro's peak. We've had some other pretty good ones (Papelbon and Bard at their peaks, Lester's occasional flashes of brilliance), but the way that Uehara just relentlessly gets guys out is unparalleled. I know that he'd make a great trade piece because he's a pending free agent and is old (and thus prone to suddenly falling off a cliff) and all that, but selfishly, I want to keep the guy in town for a few more years so I get to keep watching him mow guys down.

Yesterday was the anniversary of Koji becoming Koji, the start of a spectacular 6 appearance stretch that earned him the closer's role. He has faced 315 batters in that time, including the post-season. The average batter has seen 3.80 pitches. They break down as follows: 0.97 balls 0.75 swinging strikes 0.61 called strikes 0.89 fouls 0.59 balls hit fair That's 121 strikeouts, 7 walks, and 187 balls hit fair. The balls hit fair: 26 singles, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 3 sacrifice hits, a sacrifice fly, 4 double plays, 2 batters reached on error, and 138 other outs, including 32 popups. He has fanned or popped up 49% of the batters who haven't bunted. He has allowed a .128 / .147 / .201 slash line. His ERA is 0.49, and his WHIP is 0.50.

San Francisco needs a second baseman really bad and we have a declining veteran, who can't drive in runs and is owed nearly $100 million dollars, a perfect fit for what the Giants need.

Pretty close to zero chance. On the other hand, there's pretty close to zero chance that 7 teams would send 'full force' scouts to look at Grady Sizemore.

His ERA is 0.49, and his WHIP is 0.50. All his stats are clearly amazing, but the 7 walks stands out to me. I'm ignoring looking at is as a percentage (2.2% of the 315 batters), and realizing that will such a low number it is obvious that in this time he has never scuffled with his command. The funny part to me is he recently said he feels his mechanics are off and he is feels different every day. Boy the nerve on that guy.

Pedrioa is just not going to get traded, especially at this point of his contract extension.
I believe his contract has a no trade clause also, and if not he is 2 years away from his 10-5 rights.

It is not a symbol it is a mathematical formula..and the formula of 1 + 1 = 2 can be proven, by taking an 1 apple and adding 1 apple and you have 2 apples. There are a number of mathematical proofs, both simple & complex, showing that 0=1. One of many lessons to be learned from that example: sometimes (often?) highly intelligent arguments are wrong and intuition is right.

Aside from all the leadership/clubhouse stuff, which I 100% buy in to, trading Pedroia now is pretty much selling at his lowest non-injury point. You're not going to get the sort of premium offers it'd take for me to even pick up the phone now that Pedroia looks to be declining.

I'm really dreading the Workman + for Byrd trade already.

Another pitcher on an incredible run is Burke Badenhop. Good thing we didn't DFA him, eh? In his last 22 games, he's pitched 26 1/3 innings, 17H, 1R, 0ER(Yes zero), 7bb, 12k's. He's inherited 26 runners and only 6 scored. Not sure of league average on those. But, sounds good. And, induced 9 GIDP.
When his peripherals come around, he's gonna get pounded [remainder deleted by amfox1].
