The problem now is that WMB doesn't have a position (supporter or not). I think Farrell said X would not go back to ss on days Drew is going to face a LHP. I don't want Drew to face LHPs. Let's assume you meant when Drew is sitting against a LHP. Farrell said they would not move X over for now because they want him to get comfortable at 3B, but he did imply that it might happen later in the season.

Can we start over? The Red Sox and Orioles are going to play three baseball games. DEATH TO THE MFOs!!! Perhaps Machado will receive word of his suspension before game time.

"Cherington was still a big WMB supporter. " --------------------------------------------- The problem now is that WMB doesn't have a position (supporter or not). I think Farrell said X would not go back to ss on days Drew is going to face a LHP. That Gammo interview is interesting in a really frustrating way. For example this quote: “I don’t think there’s any remorse,” Gammons said. “??They really like Drew, and I’ll say this: [Sox general manager] Ben Cherington‘s still a great believer in Middlebrooks. Very strong believer. There will be a decision made another year from now. … There are so many political angles at play here that you’ve just got to wonder, ‘??What are they going to be a year from now?’What are the "politics" he references? Bad job by Callahan not to follow-up on that. Also, for all Gammos talk about the Sox confidence with signing Lester, he was the one pushing during the season last year that the Sox and Ells would work out an agreement and the Sox were working hard on that. We find out in retrospect no formal offer was made and they barely talked during the season. Sigh.

I hope Machado plays, he's been complete garbage.
Knowing our luck, he'd come out of his tailspin this series....
Let's hope we can build off of last nights win.

TBH with you, I'm growing more and more weary of Gammons. The guy is an all-time great at what he does, don't get me wrong, but between the Ellsbury thing like you brought up and the recent comments along the lines of a Bogaerts/upper mgmt rift I am not so sure I am as inclined to believe him like I once was.

"There are so many political angles at play here that you’ve just got to wonder, ‘??What are they going to be a year from now?’"
These are two very odd sentences. I interpret "There are so many political angles at play here" to mean there are differing opinions within ownership as to which way to take the organization as a whole. Generally, when people cite "politics" as being at play, they're talking about top down dynamics. If that is the case, then "What are they going to be a year from now" posits the possibility of a change in ownership. Is it possible, given the Donald Sterling forced sale and subsequent rethinking as to the correct valuations of American professional sports teams that Henry is considering cashing out? If the Clippers are worth $2 billion, Henry might be able to get %5 billion for the team, Fenway and ownership's interest in NESN.

Gammons has always been consistently wrong about the Sox signing their own. Recall him saying that they would work out deals with Clemens and Mo. He has also always hinted at political stuff about the Sox. Seems if he senses some different opinions, he translates it into a power struggle of sorts. I have never been impressed by him. Saw him a few times when he was covering the Sox with the Globe. It was at the old Safeco Field, and I was able to get presses passes. ( They had nice buffets then in the press box section). He was not very inspiring with stupid assessment of some players and remember Hayward Sullivan intimidate him by just staring at him. He is basically a gossip hound and only knows what he know by having somebody whispering in his ear. No doubt he truly loves the game, and is not stupid but just does not have the instincts.

Sort of, but with less crumpets and colder worse beer. 'Cause, let's face it, the reason we need Coors to be really cold is because Coors tastes like ****.

@ BAL (RH Norris): Holt LF, Bogaerts 3B, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Nava RF, Sizemore CF, Herrera SS, Ross C. Peavy
Drew sits vs a RHP while Ross gets to whiff vs. a RHP.

They're going to pay Drew 10 million for about 200 at bats.

Has to be a planned off day for Drew right?
sidebar from Ancestry.com
Drew Name Meaning English: from a short form of Andrew.English (Norman): from the Germanic personal name Drogo
So I guess we will have to refer to him as Drogo from now on. I think it fits.

Alex Speier ?@alexspeier 4m Stephen Drew (career .462/.588/.769 vs O's starter Bud Norris) sits; Jonathan Herrera (.091/.231/.091 vs Norris) in
Weird. You'd think a guy like Norris would be a perfect pitcher to get Drew going.

Can Drew not catch? Geez. Drew is only being paid 2/3 of his original asking price. It may therefore be his and Scott Boras' position that he need only perform 2/3 of what would normally be expected of an MLB player.

Can't wait for the excuse.

See, this is where the presumption of competence comes in. Drew is almost certainly not on the bench because Farrell thinks that Herrera is a better player. Drew probably just needed a day off because he's played a few games in a row and the Red Sox want to ease him into the swing of things.

Well, as a slight variation on a theme I introduced in the last series thread... ...how about playing Holt at SS and Nava and Sizemore in the OF then? I'd rather have Sizemore in the lineup than Herrera.

I get easing him in, but Lefty going on Weds, sooooooo….. Maybe an injury. No doubt Twitter will let us know as soon as clubhouse opens.

I'd rather have Sizemore in the lineup than Herrera. I would, too, but they must really not like Holt's defense at SS. Either that or they're trying to give Holt reps in LF in preparation for him being the lefty side of that platoon (thus usurping Nava and Sizemore) when Victorino comes back.

So they really did sign him because of media pressure.... Palm
I really hope this doesn't cause a problem with Bogaerts long term.
