I expect he will be in Boston sooner than later to replace Grady Sizemore.

I expect he will be in Boston sooner than later to replace Grady Sizemore. And JBJ for way too many games.

I will say that the Sizemore contract is pretty brilliant, assuming they actually get rid of him. They saw enough PAs by now to realize that he's not going to be even a shadow of his former self at any point this year.

I expect he will be in Boston sooner than later to replace Grady Sizemore. Agreed. I will bet that Sizemore will be cut when Victorino returns from the DL and that Sizemore will have less than 29 plate appearances at the time. Torres makes more sense for the future as an insurance policy rather than the present as insurance for Victorino in backing up center in case Victorino gets injured again.

I expect he will be in Boston sooner than later to replace Grady Sizemore. Is it just a monetary thing? Both guys are about 650-700 OPS guys at absolute best. I don't see why, when Nava, Holt, Gomes, Victorino and Bradley are all healthy you would want Torres out there, even over Grady Sizemore. Maybe against some lefties? But Betts could be ready soon and how much worse is a guy like Hassan? Nice depth to have I guess. But not when you have like 7 OF who look like 650-700 OPS guys at best.

It's definitely a money thing. Why pass Sizemore the bonus money when he flat out can't hit well anymore. They took a chance and it didn't work out. Cut your losses sooner rather than later.

also works to the platoon advantage, especially now that Holt is an OF

He's a direct replacement for Sizemore -- he costs next to nothing, switch-hits (and is better against lefties, which helps considering JBJ and Holt hit left-handed), he throws better, and can probably play all three outfield spots at a superior level. And perhaps best of all, he's not the type of guy Farrell will feel compelled to play over superior options.

Why would you expect Torres to be better defensively? He hasn't played this year and he's 36. I guess there is no downside as long as he only plays against lefties so I don't know what my point is. Carry on.

Carry on. He was an above average hitter against lefties in 2013 (106 wRC+) and has been in his career as well (105). With Holt, JBJ, and Nava, we have no use for Sizemore vs. RHP's, and he's been atrocious against lefties (27 wRC+). Even with Gomes, we always have an offensive hole in the outfield vs. lefties, and Torres will fill that, at least to a certain degree. I watched Torres a bunch last year during Giants games, and he's certainly more mobile than Sizemore, even at 36. He's an acceptable fill-in in CF, and probably above average in the corners. And again, he's cheap as can be.

Solid first 6 innings for Stank, 6 IP 2 H 0 BB 5 K vs Charleston on 81 pitches with 59 strikes.
Asuaje with his 7th HR of the year. Can't say enough how much he has impressed in his first full season. He should be part of the promotions occurring after the minor league All-Star breaks.

Portland suspended. Completion tomorrow. That could change the Owens piggyback plan. Welch with a HR in that game. He's been hitting well since getting regular ABs.
