Neither Luis Alexandre Basabe nor Luis Alejandro Basabe is playing for the GCL team today; I think both played and played well yesterday.
But my burning question is, does anyone know what they are called? Dre and Dro? Xa and Jo? Xandre and Jandro? X and J?

Neither Luis Alexandre Basabe nor Luis Alejandro Basabe is playing for the GCL team today. Likely because both play in the DSL. Where Devers also still plays... which is criminal. ADD: The second basemen Jan (Han? Jan? Yan?) went 1/5 with a BB yesteryday. Xan (Zan) went 2/3 with a 2B 2BB and SF. I made up those nick-names, but we call my brother "Xan" (short for Alexander) and though they look the same in print, they would probably sound different (long-a vs short-).

Henry Owens and Mookie Betts named to the Futures Game.
Team limit, 2 players so,
Josh Norris ?@jnorris427 31m .@jjcoop36 and I agree. Player we both wanted to see on the roster but didn’t make it: Blake Swihart.

Ranaudo and Xander had been selected.

Light and Callahan off to rough starts. Those are two promising guys that need to find some consistency (along with Kukuk) in the lower minors.

Victorino (RF) but not Middlebrooks in the PawSox lineup. Mookie is not but he is in the dugout . Tides lineup interesting, Quinton Berry (.292, grrrrr), Ivan De Jesus, Steve Lombardozzi and Brock Huntzinger in the bullpen. Hernandez not as efficient as he has been. 43 pitches through 2 and batters looking comfy. Cecchini is at third by the way and had a triple his first AB. Hernandez cutter still looks good but he's not commanding much of anything today. Hassan, believe it or not, just hit a 400' HR on a 3-2 pitch.

I think it's time to convert Light to a reliever where that stuff will play up. He is getting lit up consistently.
I can't believe Cecchini got a 3B I think he's on the verge of a major tear.

A year too early to consider that in my opinion. The only one at Salem that we should consider that for, again in my opinion, is Mercedes. The Salem staff has been inordinately inconsistent this year, good game, bad game. Putting someone in the pen does nothing for consistency. LOL, now the Tides have Randy Wolf in the game. Old folks team.

Mercedes has much better stuff than Light. While there is littel chance Light could start in the big league Mercedes has potential to be a starter.

He also has closer stuff. In general though if a player is considered a starter, I'd prefer to leave it that way until AA. After looking closer at Light, he's older than I was thinking so, that might be the case, I don't see him as an end of game reliever though.

Hernandez out of the game. Didn't have it tonight, generally high in the zone. No Hernandez, no Mookie, no Vazquez, Victorino still hitless and not looking likely to get a hit, good time to watch Portland.

Alex Hassan, who was ice cold and hitting .217 / .318 / .303 (176 PA) when he was recalled, goes 2/4, 2B, HR today, and is up to .293 / .408 / .512 (49 PA) in the 12 G since he was sent back down. The HR is just his second; the first was April 19th.

Has there been any explanation why Devers is still in the Dominican? I thought it was announced everywhere that he had been promoted?

Doggies lost. Held to 5 hits (all singles) and 5BBs. Gibson, Marrero and Coyle with okey dokey an night.
Kurcz pitched the ninth and Antenelis was talking about the coordination between the Boston training staff and Portland training staff. Interesting stuff. Kurcz is in his recovery from TJ year. He's got my interest though, if you read his bio, it's spot on for every game except one. In his first game back from TJ Kurcz sat at 97-98 and hit 99 which was his pre TJ velocity. He ended up striking out the side on FBs that the batters couldn't catch up with. Since then, he's basically pitched like his bio says 93ish. I'm wondering if he's throttled down because of the recovery year aspect.
He also had a triple in that game 2/4. He's been on fire.

Agreed but Mercedez is considerably more erratic. He also has closer stuff. Has Mercedes been that erratic? I wasn't sure myself, so I looked it up. Since he was moved to the starting rotation, here are his lines: 5/12: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 7 K 5/18: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R/ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 2 K 5/23: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R/ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 4 K 5/28: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 4 K 6/4: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 4 K He hasn't been the paragon of steadiness, but he's definitely not been bad enough that moving him to the bullpen seems like it'd be a serious consideration. I am curious about why he's on the DL, though, and how much longer he's going to be out going forward.
