At least it gets rid of him. That last non effort by him out of the pen showed he didn't give a sh8t anymore in Boston.

And the last link to the Red Sox former VZ summer league team is gone.

Alex Speier ?@alexspeier 56s
The player to be named from the Cubs to the Sox will be conferred after the Rule 5 draft.

Sean McAdam ?@sean_McAdam 1m Industry source: For Doubront, Sox will make choice of a few prospects after Rule 5 draft in December. In other words: don't expect much.

Big sell low. If they weren't scratching Lester and needing to get Workman on the roster I don't think we make this trade.

I doubt anyone was expecting to get anything back for him, not even saving much salary since he was making barely 100k over league minimum. This DOES keep him away from NY and allow the Sox to direct where his immediate destination is for awhile at least.

His attitude was becoming a problem and it didn't look like it was going to change. He needed a change of scenery. This is addition by subtraction. Unfortunate, though.

Big sell low. If they weren't scratching Lester and needing to get Workman on the roster I don't think we make this trade. It seems as if this was a long time in coming, but the recent public comments were probably the last straw. Doubront "should" have been a lot more than he was for the Red Sox, but besides last summer, when he was an important contributor to a playoff bound team, there really wasn't a real opportunity to sell high on him over the past few years. Last winter, he was a failed starter who complained about being a (good) reliever for a playoff team. At some point, you have to cut your losses and move on.

I never trusted Felix and the time to move him was after his playoff success. While it's nice to get rid of him he is getting what he wanted and that's not a good thing. He's talented enough that with a little motivation he can do a good job for the Cubs, until the next round of complaints start.

I understand he should be traded, but I think this was a bit of a knee jerk reaction. We held off with Peavy and got a decent return. I still think the only reason he was traded was so Workman could be called up for this start. I'd rather let Doubrount get a start and hold onto him till we can actually trade him for something.

It's easy to say they sold low right now. There weren't a lot of people clamoring "Sell! Sell!" when he value actually peaked. Players progress and regress in unexpected ways, especially pitchers. I think they really could have had something with him as a bullpen arm, but if his attitude was preventing it then they did the right thing shipping him out.

So did anyone watch him pitch the other night? Do you think he was really throwing his best or was he tanking then whining after the game again?

There weren't a lot of people clamoring "Sell! Sell!" when he value actually peaked. I got a lot of grief for proposing just that and was told he was a budding front of the rotation starter and would not bring back anything valuable in return. The return isn't going to be huge but it could be interesting.

This is a very good risk for the Cubs as they are in need of starting pitching with all the position prospects they coming up. If they can get Doubront fixed then it will look to be a very good deal for them.

Just so this doesn't turn into Arrieta part 2 because we'll never hear the end to the complaints.

K/BB by year, as a starter:
'12: 2.35 '13: 2.02 '14: 1.52
People are fixated on Doubront's supposed potential based on short streaks of success that he's had over the years, but really, he's just not a good pitcher. Fastball velo has been down every year too, so... yeah. Whatever.
