BA Q&A article on potential 1-1s for 2015. www.baseballamerica.com/draft/ask-ba-whose-running-go-1-1-next-year/Admittedly I'm not an amateur bisbal junkie but this writeup seems pretty thorough for early on. My plan this coming year will be to randomly pick somebody just before the Sox draft then spend the next three years mentioning how the Red Sox screwed up by not taking my pick.

It seems we will have a nice ranking to draft a terrific "Big One" in our first round draft next year because of our poor performance this year. Which position player do you think Red Sox will draft in the first round in 2015? Pitcher? Catcher? Firstbaseman? Secondbaseman? Thirdbaseman? Shortstop? Powerful corner outfielders? Or speedy centerfielder? What do you think? Read more: forum.soxprospects.com/user/1297/recent#ixzz3CGj6fSXq

A potential number one or two starter. My second preference would be a power hitting thirdbaseman.

My only preference is a college pitcher who projects as an ace. Otherwise whatever I'll just hope he is awesome.

this saying I want x position is just completely dumb. I'll be happy if they draft any position if he's the BPA.

The can of worms I can't believe I'm going to open is does B.P.A. mean high risk/high reward or the safe route? Despite some struggles by Ball I think we should still go high risk/high reward because if he hits then it's a talent we normally don't have access to picking in the late 20's. A "safe" high pick ceiling can be achieved in the late 20's but you take added risk of them not getting there. To me going the safe route with a high pick is the same as increasing the odds of hitting on a 20's pick, which to me is a waste. Insert Dustin Pedroia comment.......now.

Don't take the fun out of this guys. Saying BPA is too main stream.
We are 8 months away...anybody care to tell me who is this mysterious BPA guy right now?
All we can do right now is talk about what kind of profiles we like and the sort, waiting for BPA to knock on the door only to be taken by some other team while we try to hold on to him.

It depends who is being categorize as safe, sometimes safe is good. But generally I too prefer the high risk/high reward but again it has to be a "realistic" high reward, not "if this guy learns to hit he is a super star. I'm not betting a high pick on that.

Colin Moran comes to mind as a "please god no" pick as far as safe goes. I'd like to pick a player now but I don't think my heart can take another Clint Frazier type situation and there's too much that's going to change between then and now. I'll go with little Cameron and set myself up.

I did that all the time, still do some what. I try to tell my self "I have no idea who these guys are why focus on one guy" yet I still do it.

At least neither one of us has openly bitched about Frazier not falling to us. It's one thing for your player to be there and to have get passed up and another to not have him available at all.

I see the argument that the org. is heavy in pitching and light on power. But, while that can be a consideration as BC looks to bolster the lower minors, it should not deter him from taking, for example, a Barnes or Owens if he is clearly the most talented and projectable at the time of the pick.

Well, we already shut Pedroia down. A nice 10 game losing streak to end the season is not impossible. Keep hope alive!

Good stuff from Kiley. I haven't seen Rodgers as the #1 rated player in any other outlet. Matuella, Buehler, and Funkhouser are intriguing guys to follow this spring, as well as the two JC guys (Bickford and Aiken). I'm obviously on board with the best player available strategy, but would caution on guys like Bregman and Swanson. I think the strength of the draft truly will be college SP.

The Just Missing section includes Nick Shumpert, son of Terry Shumpert and cousin of the one and only Mookie Betts. He will be desired by many here for no reason other than his connection to Mookie.

Justin hooper seems like an ideal cherrington pitcher. Tall, big fastball and change up and not so much on the command.

I figure it is about time to get one of these started.
Someone to keep track of:
Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd Heard today that TCU plans to move closer Riley Ferrell to Friday starter. Fringe first rounder as closer; up to 100 w/plus SL & some feel.

This is a really good interview with Dan Kantrovitz, Cardinals scouting director, on how St. Louis approaches drafting and developing young talent. In particular, there's tons of great discussion about how to value draft prospects (high-ceiling low-floor vs. high-floor low-ceiling) and the role of analytics in drafting and developing players.
