Any news on his injury? Should he be considered as a possible move to the 60 day DL to make room for the addition of Brian Johnson to the 40 man so he could be called up to get some starts?

Unlike players on the major league disabled list, Workman's clock would restart if he were recalled and put on the 60-day DL. So it would keep him out until early July.
EDIT: I'm seeing now that his option was actually rescinded and he is on the Major League DL. My bad.

I think that whether players like Workman get put on the DL in the minors or majors can tell us a fair amount about how the Sox evaluate the player. If they feel eating up MLB service time is less costly than eating an option, then they don't expect him to be a very costly (ie. all-star) player in the future. Furthermore, they feel he has a chance to ride the Pawtucket shuttle a lot, and therefore they should conserve his options when possible. Edwin Escobar is a similar prospect in a similar position. Not that this surprises us with either player.

I'm pretty sure he's going to start throwing again mid-May. And id be shocked if he doesn't get put in a relief role for the forseeabke future.

Also, if he was hurt when optioned, they could face a grievance for costing him service time. That's the reason why Escobar wasn't optioned - you can't option a guy who's injured. Nothing to do with saving options.

With the outrighting of Allan Craig, the 40 man roster now stands at 37. No moves need to be made to fit Brian Johnson into the rotation.

Does anyone have an update on Workman or Escobar on the injury front? From today: @peteabe: #RedSox RHP Brandon Workman, who had a PRP shot in his elbow. has started playing catch and says he can feel a difference from before.

Yep. Read that earlier today. Also said there is a LONG way to go before thinking about getting on the mound.

Too bad a month has been wasted from when he started playing catch and "feeling better" 'till now that he's has the TJ.

This is the Red Sox for you. Lets take the rest and rehab path 100% of the time. This never works in my opinion. Just get the surgery over with as soon as possible and move on to next year. Now he won't be around til mid 2016.

Vazquez didn't take the rest and rehab path, so it's probably not 100% of the time.
