FTHW, can confirm that Damn. is up to Kendrick's typical level of greatness (I'm a huge Kendrick stan, and I'm not even the biggest hip-hop fan, honestly), but will admit I needed a few listens and probably need a few more to really get my head around it. I spent most of my initial time with the album just jamming DNA. and Humble. on repeat. I'm geeked to hear what he does exec producing the Black Panther soundtrack. The lead single he did with SZA (whose album I probably need to check out) is great. Kind of interesting: he re-released Damn. recently with the tracks ordered in reverse. Interesting concept. By the way, can someone sell me on whether or not current hip hop is as terrible beyond a few artists as I think it is? I've come to grips with the fact that it might just be me getting old, but I feel like everyone's trying to be Future right now with their flows (that sleepy sort of relaxed thing), and I do not love Future. I feel like there's Kendrick and Chance and a couple others. Also, someone tell me where to start on J. Cole. I mean yes, hip-hop portrayed in the mainstream media is pretty cringeworthy overall. I agree with your exceptions of Kendrick and Chance and would add Run the Jewels. I hate to make a mainstream vs. underground distinction in 2018, but I can say there is still some really interesting hip-hop being made that won't receive any Grammy nominations anytime soon. It kind of depends how obscure or abstract your tastes are. That said, its not like Kendrick makes highly accessible music. You need to be willing to follow his lyrics and concepts to fully appreciate his music. TPAB is a really challenging but rewarding listen for example. If you're interested in checking out some under-the-radar albums, start with these: Open Mike Eagle - Brick Body Kids Still Daydream Oddisee - The Good Fight (Iceberg is another album of his that is pretty great) Quelle Chris - Being You Is Great, I Wish I Could Be You More Often If you can handle even more abstract hip-hop, then I'd further recommend artists like Homeboy Sandman, Milo, Aesop Rock, Danny Brown, and Elucid, all of which have pretty consistently made quality music in the last handful of years. Had forgotten RTJ. Good call. And completely agree on the comments about Kendrick. Will check all that out at some point.

And yes. I have the 8-track of this album/CD too. I have been into this since way back when .

A little workout or running music. This was a side project of Rob Halford of Judas Priest

Not sure where people fall on Foo Fighters (I'm going to assume everyone is in about the same boat on Rick Astley), but I discovered this last night and have played it at least 10 times in the past 24 hours.
Also the Black Panther Soundtrack is money.

Let me throw a bit of a curveball here:
Keep in mind it's a finnish dark folk band so yeah it gets pretty dark lol. However, this music is seriously mesmerizing, the piano just demands your attention and the whole thing just feels like an alien jazz song. I love this band, if you're unfamiliar with their stuff give it a go if you're feeling adventurous.

This is an edit from an earlier attempt. This solo is absolutely mesmerizing .I play this and Us and Them by Pink Floyd over and over. The sax solo in that song is one of the best.

I've been watching the series on Cinemax called Strike Back. The theme song from the show is by The Heavy called Short Change Hero have not stopped listening to it for a month..Now I've been listening to their other stuff. Really like this band. And my apologies for sharing more than the theme song but they're that good

Ever dig into the back catalog of either of those guys? I was just listening to Funcrusher Plus from El-P's first group, Company Flow. This one line grabbed my attention: I don't try to be different, I am So inevitably my style will survive when your now turns to then The album was released in '97, so... good call, El. His solo albums are all great as well: Bonus round, this track is legendary and everyone on it is worth checking out (heads up, there's a lot of mostly naked butts in this video):

Alright. I'll put some random stuff that I listen to.
First Tool (most maybe heard of them), spent a lot of my time as a teenager doing teenager stuff listening to this album which is my favorite all-time. Every song is like ten minutes long and it's awesome-
Then there is this song that is intense and will always get me pumped up (turn your radios down when listening to this)-
Here is just a relaxing song that will always relax me-
Okay, yeah I'm probably weird.

10,000 Days is your fav Tool album? Interesting. Yeah, not to bash you Pedro (because perhaps its an age thing?), but I don't think I've even heard 10,000 Days and I was a giant Tool fan in the 90s. For me, I'd rank them pretty clearly: 1. Aenima. 2. Undertow 3. Lateralus Sidenote: I met Danny Carey's wife and kid (we have kids about the same age that were throwing rocks at each other) in Hawaii about a month ago. She was super pleasant and told me that the new Tool album is 100% written and they're going to the studio to record now. I actually don't think this any kind of inside info, I'm pretty sure you can find that out from Google, but always nice to have confirmation from someone who knew exactly that Danny had plans to be in the studio this month.

While I love Tool's entire discography, Lateralus is one of the most unreal albums I ever heard. I remember the first I heard The Grudge and then that short interlude and then The Patient and holy nuts they just perfected the kind of music they play in those 3 songs. It's just a beast of an album and Danny Carey is a God among men.
I feel kind of bad that A Perfect Circle never really clicked with me though.

Has anyone ever met a woman who likes Tool? I have not. They're kind of like Rush in that regard.

I love rap, I hate the new style. My all time favorite is Tupac. My favorite also is Nipsey Hussle. Just came out with a record Victory Lap. He is a throwback to the West Coast rap. Some of these dudes now just catch a wave that’s popular and then they disappear. I am sure that happens all over.
When I go to Red Sox games I find it interesting when the batters music plays what there listening too.

Man Dwane Casey the coach for the Raptors flat out looks like an old school jazz player, I can picture him on those glorious Blue Note covers. It's the bright side about losing to the Raptors, at least I'm reminded that Jazz is beautiful:
Great stuff!

10,000 Days is your fav Tool album? Interesting. Yeah the songs on there play for what seems like hours and I don't think there's a bad song in it.

Yeah, I'm shocked, that album has a couple of their famous songs. 10,000 days got me through some horrible months. It's probably more sentimental more than anything. That and the 90's was my favorite decade. Wrestling was big, the music was great, the cartoons was great (I was a kid), Ted Williams last goodbye in 99. Pedro Martinez. Nomar. Those times were awesome. Heck, my first game at Fenway was Pedro's first 16 strikeout game on June 10th 1999. What a time it was back then.

It's funny, if anything, our post makes it even more surprising to me you don't prefer Aenima or Lateralus. While we're discussing Tool, probably a good time to drop this sick video of a bunch of kids just killing it on Forty-Six and Two.
