OK, why were you all holding out on me on John Prine? I have to admit near-total ignorance about his music until he recently passed away, but after finally doing an initial foray into his catalog, the man was a genius. I knew Angel from Montgomery but didn't know he wrote it. Anyone got recommendations on his stuff? Prine joins a sad group who put out amazing albums right before dying that are either explicitly about their deaths or simply prefigure them. Bowie’s Blackstar, Zevon’s The Wind both come to mind, as well.

I'm curious who this is. I have no idea what they are singing but it sure is catchy...

I just used Shazam to get that the artist is Adriano Celentano, The tune is “Prisencolinensinainciusol”. Not kidding, I double checked the spelling.

Interesting history to that song... In November 1972, Italian pop star Adriano Celentano released a song that hit No. 1 in his home country, despite the fact it wasn't performed in Italian.
It also wasn't performed in English.
In fact, it wasn't performed in any language at all.
The song, called "Prisencolinensinainciusol," was written to mimic the way English sounds to non-English speakers.
Celentano, now 74 years old, says that he wanted to break down language barriers and inspire people to communicate more.
Italian singer and director Adriano Celentano's hit song, "Prisencolinensinainciusol" was released 40 years ago this weekend. Alberto Pizzoli/AFP/Getty Images "Ever since I started singing, I was very influenced by American music and everything Americans did," he tells Guy Raz, host of weekends on All Things Considered, through interpreter Sim Smiley.
"So at a certain point, because I like American slang — which, for a singer, is much easier to sing than Italian — I thought that I would write a song which would only have as its theme the inability to communicate," he says. "And to do this, I had to write a song where the lyrics didn't mean anything."
"Prisencolinensinainciusol" is so nonsensical that Celentano didn't even write down the lyrics, but instead improvised them over a looped beat. When it was first released in 1972, Celentano says no one noticed it. But that didn't stop him from performing it several years later on Italian television. The second time was the charm: it immediately became No. 1 in Italy, as well as France, Germany and Belgium.
The song has been characterized as everything from Euro-pop, funk, house and even the world's first rap song — none of which were Celentano's intention.
"From what I know, 10 years later, rap music exploded in the States," he says. "I sang it with an angry tone because the theme was important. It was an anger born out of resignation. I brought to light the fact that people don't communicate."
But is that really what American English sounds like?
"Yes," he says. "Exactly like that."

A friend posted this in Facebook. I was going to skip it because I couldn't imagine the artst pulling this song off. Curiosity got the best of me and I listened (watched). It's damn good. Sort of like Madonna pulling off Eva Peron but....

Mark Lanegan was one of my all-time favorites. The Screaming Trees were great, obviously, but his solo work was incredible too. RIP.

What would you have wanted them to do with him? He had an injury riddled season, but it's not like they're going to plummet his entire evaluation I just said I agree with our site bro. I dont know why the other sites gave up so quickly , He was breaking top 50. I just want to go on the record as saying I work with a John Russo, who is a uw lead in insurance, and I giggle with uncontrollable mirth every time I see your avatar for Death Row Records. Just imagining him secretly playing Dre or Snoop on his commute into work a-la Michael in Office Space and then coming into the office to talk about risk scores is pure gold.

I grew up a Tupac fan. I love west coast music because the producers put melody in there beats where as eastcoast was always more raw.

I was more a fan of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and LL. I liked Public Enemy, Too Short, and Eazy E for purely juvenile reasons, they said controversal taboo stuff.

Current listening - lots of time with WNCW playing. Big Pat Metheny fan (saw him at least 15 times) - so, jazz - also alternative rock (Radiohead, The National) - and lots of Ambient. Very eccentric/eclectic tastes.

I liked everything but country, started a new job last year where we have music going all day, they left me in charge of picking what I want except Friday, that's country Friday, and after 52 years I can say it finally grew on me enough to like Chris Stapelton, Whiskey Meyers, and Tyler Childers.

I listen to tons of different stuff, but if I had to pick a favorite song this would probably be it. The dream is to one day be able to play it on the guitar, but it's tough sledding. The guy is a wizard.

in the run up to New Years', during the Eve, or, into 2023 and beyond, find time for this chill "Ride", with Boney James & friends, on Spotify, Amazon, or, an alt vehicle of your choice!

Ranking SRV ahead of Clapton, Page, and Beck is, er, idiosyncratic. But to each his own! My favorites are not guitar gods... mostly sloppy punks. SRV moves me like no one else. I don't have measurements of how far I'm moved. And I fully understand that some will call me crazy for it. And Led Zeppelin is the best band of all time.I actually pulled a ticket, in the international lottery set up, for the Ahmet Ertugen Tribute charity concert at London's O2 Arena, back in 2007, with Jason Bonham on drums.
Sadly, though I had family in London at the time, and initially planned to go, ended up selling the ticket, thinking I'd catch them, stateside, with the proceeds, because, "what are the chance's it's a one-off?!"

Oddball song I always liked and usually play multiple times consecutively: Question.. Does anybody know what the expression "Jersey Girl" means ? I'm assuming a transgender but I'm not sure. Love the Wilburys' abbreviated catalog - esp like this one
