Wow. That's incredible. The implications of that would be redefining the roster in other areas almost definitely.

Good lord. I'll go to bed now. Next thing they traded Mookie or Bogaerts.

Would be frustrating if we actually paid Sandoval $100 million, but our offer was reportedly $95 million so it's not exactly much of a difference and something to lose sleep over.
Not sure why they would up their offer. Sandoval doesn't profile as a must get type.

Good lord. I'll go to bed now. Next thing they traded Mookie or Bogaerts. These are completely unrelated positions. Mookie and XB fill CF/RF and SS, and are getting paid the league minimum. In no way do we have to move them at all.

Not sure why they would up their offer. Sandoval doesn't profile as a must get type. Clearly they valued Sandoval at a very high level indicative of their first publicized offer. At the end of the day if the tweets are accurate $1.4MM more a year to get a guy you value isn't that much. Obviously most on here, including myself, aren't a huge fan of five years at $90MM+ for him but the front office thinks differently. The increase in the offer doesn't worry me, at least they didn't go 6 years if the reports are correct.

If we trade either Betts or Bogaerts this offseason will be a loss regardless of who we sign.
They are going to get an superstar for either of them. So you should keep them, the potential is way too high.
It would be very reminicent of the Bruins trading Tyler Seguin, for any of you hockey fans, for a few nickels and a dime. Seguin is now one of the best offensive players in the NHL. Top 10.

Jake Wesley, 18m "@natgordo I would be genuinely surprised if cole hamels wasn't a sox on opening day" Jake Wesley, 35m "@redsoxstats thinking Hanley at SS. Xander traded" I hope we don't play Hanley at SS

Xander for Hamels would be completely moronic. That guy should stick to conveying what he hears not give his personal speculation/ideas.

Holy hell I am so unbelievably confused right now. If we have legitimately signed both Panda and Hanley, Panda will be our starting 3B. That means one of three things: 1) Cespedes is traded and Hanley is our starting LF 2) Napoli is traded and Hanley is our starting 1B 3) Bogaerts is traded and Hanley is our starting SS
That guy is saying Xander is expected to be traded, if so I will be furious. I'll let things play out before jumping to conclusions, but my god, that would be absolutely moronic. Bring in an injury riddled, defensively below-average, $100 mil 30-year old SS to replace Xander? Again, I'll wait until everything plays out, but that would make me furious.

He's very clearly speculating on the Xander thing.

Dave Cameron writes at Fangraphs about a Sandoval+Ramirez scenario: www.fangraphs.com/blogs/hanley-ramirez-and-the-logjam-in-boston/He thinks it's most likely that Cespedes gets moved but also mentions another possibility... Ruben Amaro has done a great job convincing the media and the public that Bogaerts for Hamels would be a reasonable trade, but it's going to backfire on him because his fellow GMs are not so gullible.

I agree that the idea of Bogaerts-for-Hamels is asinine. Hanley should not be playing short at this point anyway, so I can't see a Bogaerts trade coming into play. More likely, if we do sign Sandoval as well, it spells the end for Cespedes in Boston.

Well, we have 5 viable third basemen now. Problem solved, time to close up the thread!

Given that Hamels is worth so much at 5/110, we should trade Sandoval or Ramirez for him straight up.
