Saw a tweet he was topping out at 95mph. That's some heat, but not the 100 he was reported to have it. If he's only throwing 95, I cannot see any way he make the O's. Even at 98/99, I just don't see where he's going to have the improvement that a A ball pitcher would need to make to be successful in MLB. I think we get him back.

It's also the very beginning of camp. I'd be stunned if he came out of the gate pumping 100. I think he gets returned, but because he doesn't know where the ball is going.

You have to put that Rays draft on the ownership not the management. The writeups at the time indicated that they were given a budget which either allowed them to draft 1 or 2 big $$ players or use all of the picks and spread the money. They chose the later which in retrospect was a mistake but the initial low budget was the cause. Budget restrictions don't help, but even so, with that many picks you've got to hit on SOMEBODY. For that matter, the Rays have had a lot of bad drafts in recent memory besides '11.

Good for him if he has that clause in his contract. I wouldn't go down either.

Good for him if he has that clause in his contract. I wouldn't go down either. Except for rehab, players almost never accept minor league assignments when they aren't contractually obligated to do so. A team can't give a player this type of clause in his contract and then expect him to do anything other than use it.

Given that ST games are starting today. Isn't it time to lock this thread?

Sanchez (Toronto) was cuffed around by the Pirates. Top prospect, good stuff but has no idea where the ball is going. I saw him a few times last year and I seriously think the bottom of the Jays rotation is going to be a nightmare. He's not ready.

Daniel Norris lives in a van....down by the river. Interesting guy, never knew this about him. Yeah, I just read that ... I didn't know anything about him, now I'm a fan. He's a non-comformist, but in a way that's actually thought-out and interesting, not just "look at how different I am."

Because what I'd want is my 39-year-old DH sprinting around the bases on March 4? Come. On. What's amazing is there are so many legitimate things to rip Rodriguez for. He's like bizarro-world Jeter. With Cap'n Jetes it was media giving him all these attributes he didn't actually have in order to deify him, which had the effect of detracting from his actual, extremely impressive, accomplishments. He was on base 4,717 times but people felt the need to yell "he was actually good at defense!" He wasn't, and so what? With Rodriguez, they need to invent flaws to villify him, when there are plenty of actual dumb things he does that stand on their own. He's a miserable jerk who was embarrassingly fed popcorn on television by Cameron Diaz, but we hear "he didn't run hard enough in spring training!" EDIT: If David Ortiz ripped a single to right and just walked straight into the dugout in a spring training game, would anyone care? I'd think that was a good idea.

@sportscenter: Giants believe RF Hunter Pence suffered broken arm after being hit by pitch in spring training game. He will undergo X-rays to confirm.
