Coyle takes the corpse of Chad Billingsley deep.
Callahan also not fooling anyone.

Sam Travis and Bryce Brentz with home runs.
Ball has settled down: 3 singles, 2 strike outs, 0 walks over his last 3ip.

Silver lining, Ball looks to have settled down nicely after one tough inning. 4 runs and 6 hits in the 2nd, no runs and 3 hits in the other 4 innings. Again, we all wish the results were better, but the development is more important, hopefully that part is still professing. Someone posted an article recently with quotes from MiLB pitchers including Hank Owens, and part of it was about working on things in game, and the results can sometimes take a back seat. I still have high hopes for Trey.
ADD: yeah, what Chavo said...

And then not Trey Ball 5.1 10 6 6 1 3 2 10.13 That's bad management in my opinion, not just sticking up for Ball, but he should've been done after 5, let him feel good about settling down and closing the door in his last 3 innings. Easy to play Monday morning QB from my recliner, but c'mon, first start of the year, 5IP was more than enough.

Add Guerra to the home run list.
For all the consternation about Ball, Callahan lasted 2.1 before giving way to Jerez.

Taylor Grover with 2.2 scoreless in relief of Ball.

Seeing "Betts" in the box score for Salem keeps throwing me off.

I was at the Greenville game last night.
Lots of really good performances but none better than Javy Guerra, he showed really good bat speed last night, every AB he hit the ball hard and defensively he showed excellent range and a cannon.
Devers hit a missle that I couldn't believe the park held, it hit off the top of the wall in Right center field and then he lost his mind and tried to stretch it into a 3B, but you don't see 18 year olds hit the ball that hard, he also showed great bat control smacking a couple of 1B's to LF.
one player I knew nothing about that had a lot of loud AB's was Catcher, Jordan Procyshen, but his receiving skills looked shaky despite a strong throwing arm
Mauricio Dubon looked silky smooth at 2B and had a hell of a pic that started a 4-6-3 DP.
on the other side of the ledger,
Michael Chavis didn't have a good night at all, 3 pop ups to 2B or shallow right field and a K. Not to worried about the stick though he showed really good bat speed. He didn't get too many chances at 3rd base but he had 2 plays to his left early in the game that I thought he would get to and he didn't, one right at him that he dropped but he time to recover and one to his left that nobody would have gotten. You can't make too much out of 1 game and he showed a really good arm but I'm wondering about the range.
Before the season started, Callahan was my pick for the Red Sox prospect that makes the biggest jump in the rankings in 2015, I would like to have that pick back please. His fastball sat 86-88 touched 90 a couple of times and 92 once. We were off to the side a little bit but the pitch seemed pretty straight and the Augusta hitters weren't missing it, he threw about 15 pitches at 83 MPH, not sure if he took something off of his fastball or if that was a changeup but it too looked straight, he also threw a 73 MPH curve. Unless his pitches take a giant step forward I don't see it for him.
My 1st time at Fluor field, really a nice park, I'll be seeing Greenville next Friday in Asheville I'll write up a few guys then too

I wish the EL would let Portland make a stop in Greenville and Salem. Play a 3 game series in each ballpark. A doubleheader for the locals. Play a week on the road. Then hit Portland around April 20th at the earliest. Most of the players will have played in Salem and Greenville. A Homecoming of sorts.

You say this like Portland is in a completely different climate than the rest of the Eastern League though. Two other games were postponed on Thursday. The teams and the league aren't going to want to just give gates away to southern parks. If the games get postponed until there's better weather... then great. Also, I'd guess there's zero demand to see random Double-A games in Greenville and Salem. It's not like it's going to be that special of an attraction or anything.

Hell, they might start booing in Greenville if the Dogs took the field, given how stacked this year's Drive team is.
