Three withering pitchers right there. And they have Scherzer and Fister (AND Roark in the wings). Sox need to be sharp or they could have a losing record by Thurs a.m.

A quick survey of plate discipline numbers on Red Sox hitters that have already surpassed 25 PAs, 2014 numbers in parenthesis:
Xander Bogaerts O-Swing: 24.6% (28.5%) Z-Swing: 54.0% (60.5%) O-Contact: 73.3% (59.2%) Z-Contact: 88.2% (86.4%) Comment: A slightly more selective approach combined with much better success at making contact when he does swing at one outside the zone has lead to a drastically lower K-Rate. If he can keep this up we are in for a treat.
Dustin Pedroia O-Swing: 25.4% (26.9%) Z-Swing: 55.7% (57.9%) O-Contact: 73.3% (81.0%) Z-Contact: 87.2% (92.0%) Comment: The power is back, but contact rates look to have dropped from elite to merely good. A worrying trend.
Mookie Betts O-Swing: 31.5% (18.9%) Z-Swing: 50.0% (50.9%) O-Contact: 52.9% (74.4%) Z-Contact: 94.6% (92.8%) Comment: As long as pitchers throw him strikes everything's as good as ever, but he has taken to chasing some pitches he can't get to, as his rising strikeouts and declining walks will also attest to.
David Ortiz: O-Swing: 28.4% (27.3%) Z-Swing: 65.9% (68.2%) O-Contact: 47.6% (66.9%) Z-Contact: 82.8% (88.7%) Comment: Probably just waiting for the weather to improve.
Hanley Ramirez: O-Swing: 30.2% (29.3%) Z-Swing: 73.5% (68.6%) O-Contact: 69.2% (64.4%) Z-Contact: 94.4% (90.9%) Comment: He's not going to lead the team in walks, that's for sure. When you're as hot as Hanley is, there's nothing wrong with swinging the bat more often.
Pablo Sandoval: O-Swing: 42.4% (45.0%) Z-Swing: 73.7% (76.6%) O-Contact: 66.7% (79.8%) Z-Contact: 85.7% (88.0%) Comment: Maybe East Coast pitchers are smarter than their West Coast brethren... they've thrown just 38.3% of their pitches into the strike zone when facing the Panda (2014: 42.2%). Sandoval keeps lunging at them, but his success rate at that has declined sharply. A .429 BABIP (career: .314) has helped disguise this, but if Sandoval keeps this up he might soon be competing with Sandy Leon for the title of worst hitter on the team.

Sox need to be sharp or they could have a losing record by Thurs a.m. They are also missing Werth, Rendon and Span. They're 2-4 and just lost a series to the Phillies. And most importantly, they miss Buchholz. Sounds like Tom Brady is throwing out the firs pitch today

Yes! I have tickets to Tuesday's game. I was hoping Strasburg would line up, but didn't really expect it to work out that way!

We are seeing an injured lineup, and catching their stud pitchers early in the season. I like our odds of taking 2 games.

Also I hope that Mookie Bust guy isn't leading off again. His K/BB sucks and I hear he's a negative force in the locker room.

When will Swihart be in Boston? Are they waiting for Leon or Hanigan to hit poorly enough to be kicked out of the starting lineup, Swihart to play his way to Boston, is his service time a consideration, or none of the above?

I love you, Mookie. Don't even care if they reverse the safe call at third.

Are they waiting for Leon or Hanigan to hit poorly enough to be kicked out of the starting lineup, Swihart to play his way to Boston, is his service time a consideration, or none of the above? He'll be in Boston when he's ready, and how well Hanigan and Leon hit is immaterial, that's what the other 8 guys are for.

Also, he was probably interfered with on the way to third assuming the tag is there, which it doesn't appear to be anyway.

So assuming they reverse this and call him out, can the Red Sox come out and challenge that he was interfered with?
