I'm really hoping the front office has a chat with farrell if he keeps this up. FO: 'We gave you 5 perfectly good 4-5 starters, why haven't you been able to succeed with them' Farrell: 'because they're perfectly good 4-5 starters so we're missing 3 better guys who will go a month between bad starts opposed to every other one' FO: 'and why is our 20 million dollar man so wretched?' Farrell: 'He's not wretched, this is who he is. This is always been who he is' FO: 'Let us guess: A perfectly fine 4th starter' Farrell: 'correct'

Sox are lucky to even be sitting where they are. I dunno how many games they've won due to other teams puking all over themselves defensively, but its a lot.

Is it just me or are the hits off Mujica and Varvaro much harder than those off Buchholz?

It's hilarious that only after the two walks and the two balks does Farrell get somebody warming in the pen. Well, jmei you need innings from someone. Who are you going to bring in other than wasting Tazawa or Ogando that you feel confident will do the job?..and for how many innings? Hey, we are not confident of starting or closing or stopping the bleeding. That is a true tri-fecta. For starters, Buch will be better (maybe), Kelly is a possible stud in the making and Porcello is a 4 or 5...consistent but not great. We took a chance that Porcello was evolving and tried to catch him on the upside. It may turn our to be a poor assessment at $20 per. The rest of the rotation could quite easily be discarded or sold for pennies. The bullpen was a cheaper effort ....spend on hope that if you sign enough cheapies, someone or a few would emerge due to presumed variance in that niche. But, had we signed Miller, that would certainly have helped pitching wise and as an asset if we needed to continue the re-structuring. He is now worth much more than Koji...especially going forward. "The ocean was angry that day, my friends."

Farrell will go before Ben. Ben's philosophies align more with ownership and they haven't forgot how quickly he turned a train wreck into a World Series team, in spite of many of Farrell's questionable moves.
Yes, we don't have an ace. But we have plenty of trade chips and money to spend in the offseason. They aren't saddled with many bad contracts other than Craig and have room to manuever. This is a bridge year. Masterson and Buchholz can be let go after this season if necessary and they can go after other guys.
Sandoval and Hanley look pretty good at the plate and Hanley's D will get better in time. They are playing it safe for now and are unlikely to pursue foolish trades.

Farrell should have thought about this question before hooking Buchholz.

Sandoval and Hanley look pretty good at the plate We just haven't faced many LHPs recently, else you wouldn't be saying this about Sandoval.

Don't worry Dudes, we've got 5 innings to get 5 runs. Just gotta hold them. And Farrell's just getting to the better arms in the pen,

I'm still a huge Ben fan and a mildly supportive Farrell guy. Indications were that we signed some steady # 3s, not a bunch of #5s. If you can call Buchholz steady ever. At least he's really good some of the time. My concern from day one with this team has been the pen. I still think the rotation pulls out of it, especially with 3 guys in Pawtucket who can maybe help us ready.

Everyone needs to shut the f**k up. This organization is strong. We have the farm to trade for two "aces" if we wanted to. This **** is a process and our staff has been as unlucky as possible an 1/8th of the way through the season and yet we are right there in the most competitive division in baseball. So R-E-L-A-X. And shut the f**k up.

I have in the past been guilty of complaining about slow hooks. I have since read the research ( mglbaseball.wordpress.com/ ), apologize for my past sins, and promise not to do it again (unless the pitchers are giving up too many walks / HRs).

baseball is entertainment and this will be entertaining considering: 1. This was the game Steven Wright was supposed to go 5 innings in relief ... if he weren't on the way back to AAA. 2. Who knows which reinforcement we will see on WED 3. Holt, Leon, Nava, Craig ... never ever pitched. Which is a problem on a team like this. Jeff Bianchi would add value to this bench.
A very entertaining pitching staff.
