ERA over one season = bad stat. ERA over one month = trivia. OK. Pick your pitching stat and see where we rank. My pitching stat of choice, especially for small samples, is SIERA. They are in last place in every pitching category 11th in the majors in K% 19th in the majors in BB% 14th in the majors in xFIP 15th in the majors in SIERA 19th in the majors in GB% 18th in the majors in Z-Contact% 18th in the majors in SwSrk% You do realize there are 30 teams in the majors, right?

ERA over one season = bad stat. ERA over one month = trivia. OK. Pick your pitching stat and see where we rank. Heading into today, we were 14th in the majors in xFIP, in 5th in the American League. xFIP is regarded as one of the better ways to measure performance in smaller sample sizes. A lot of this has genuinely been poor sequencing/babip/defense. By no means am I arguing this a top tier pitching team, but they're not nearly the dumpster fire a stat like ERA would portray them as either.

My pitching stat of choice, especially for small samples, is SIERA. I should qualify that: I would actually prefer SIRA, but it doesn't seem to get published.

We've probably talked more about the breslow than anyone else so far this season.

Craig Breslow continues to get the Victorino treatment on this team. Its like ya we know he was great in that WS run, but guy is a bum now.

This team is probably about right where people pegged them to be this year...except watching them is so much less entertaining and much more infuriating to watch than expected.

some managers would go with a six-man rotation now with Eduardo joining up. Then eventually drop 2 of the six when Steven Wright's knuckler heats up in July ... 4 of our 12 have usable options.
STICK WITH THE PLAN!
(There's a secret plan, I know there is, and peeples on here ain't read it.) Jess Todd was something special tonite and the reason God created AAA baseball was for days like this.
Just say NO to Saltalamacchia.
RE: "less entertaining and much more infuriating to watch than expected" RADIO. This team is better suited for radio, try that out for a week or so.

If you want to play a six man rotation you have to commit to slow hooks.

It's going to get better. The numbers were there going into the start of this year for this to be a great hitting team, a little above average pitching team, with alot of depth. We are going to be fine.
Hanley alone is a monster season waiting to happen.

BTW, when does Farrell realize he could've won this game back in the third or even the fourth inning?

I criticize Ben more than most around here...but this does seem to be a real bad luck streak. The amount of innings alone where the opposing team has scored more than 5 runs seems a larger than normal distribution.
The players have to own this for the most part. They can't be this bad.

Saw the HR before typing that but look at the overal situation with Hanley and he alone could carry this team a long way. He has not been lucky and he has a lot of help potentially.
