Would be nice if Ortiz and Napoli start to hit in the middle of that order.
Seems like it's Hanley and Panda show lately.

And Mookie at the top of it. It makes me feel better to think that we haven't even begun to see what this offense is capable of.

That all happens over time. More wearisome is the loss of another catcher. They don't grow on trees. I would guess Quintero makes his appearance.

So are we really expecting Swihart? Or are we going to endure a few weeks of Quintero?

Setting the O/U on Wade Miley innings tomorrow at 3.5 I would advise you against trying to make it as a professional bookie.

Multiple tweets saying Swihart: @mlbtraderumors: Red Sox To Promote Blake Swihart t.co/bkrfiYNATE@scottlauber: Given length of Hanigan absence, Swihart will be move for #RedSox @sean_McAdam: Industry source: Swihart will join Red Sox Sat. though Sox will continue to explore external options. Saltalamacchia not among them, however

Wow. Kick that fan out of Fenway right now. That guy is a hero - he realized that Butterfield was guaranteed to make the wrong call if he didn't touch it, better to leave it up to the umps than Butterfield! Bogaerts would have scored pretty easily on that play. If it weren't for the fact that I've never, ever seen the umps give a runner who was on 1B the plate on an interference call on a double, I'd say the umps blew it. The Sox should adopt a policy where they make public the names of any fan whose interference costs the team a run in a game they lose by a run or in extra innings. Although, frankly, they could probably make it the death penalty and wouldn't have a deterrent effect. If you're not smart enough to not interfere with an apparent 2-out RBI 2B, which will get you ejected, period, I'm not sure anything's going to make a difference. Yeah, I'm still pissed.

Guy is running on contact. Will that be wrong once in a while, yes, but so would other GR doubles not scoring a guy. Sox woulda won 4-3 with those rules. Infuriating.

Watch Farrell not even start Swihart today. Francona always started position players the daythey were brought up because he didn't want the guy to think about it, We brought him up to play." Farrell much less so.

Farrell much less so. It's a different situation with a catcher, though ... does he even know the pitching game plan against the Yankee hitters? Have any real feel for Miley? I'd actually be surprised if he started today. Seeing A-Rod's homer yesterday was doubly annoying for me because one of my biggest pet peeves is the culture of near-automatic taking on a 3-0 pitch. Why does this make sense? Is it customary for pitchers to just throw a pitch out when it's 0-2? If everyone did was A-Rod did, it'd add a not-insignificant bit of offense to the game, I think. It would make 2-0 a more important pitch, cause more walks on 3-0, more hits ... so to see A-Rod beat the Red Sox doing it just made me annoyed.

So it begins. (Also have I mentioned Farrell hates Nava?)

Love seeing Betts, Bogaerts and Swihart in there, but I'm still mourning the loss of Vazquez for the year. I think he was a big part of the plans for that pitching staff, he's just so good about the planning and preparation, and his defensive skillset is over the top. But it's baseball, and stuff happens all the time. Got a very detailed - and gruesome - HD look at Hanigan's hand after he was hit on the rebound last evening. It was easy to see he'd be on the shelf for a while. That's two down. Hopefully the god of random events focuses somewhere else at this point.
The Sox are fortunate to have players in their system they can call on. And they're not done as they haven't tapped the pitching talent in Pawtucket to any great extent... yet.

This is the plan in action - groundball, groundball, groundball and another groundball to end the inning.

btw, I know some folks here don't like the NESN announcers but that CF camera position is among the best - if not THE best - in baseball.

I happen to like Don and Jerry - and here in NY I'm stuck listening to Michael Kay all weekend, so I really have no sympathy for the NESN-haters.
