Didn't want to start a whole new thread for just this, but MLB Pipeline has us tied to their #11 international prospect for J2 15-16. I'm not really sure how they would be able to sign him, given that they can't spend more than 300k on any player. Hey, maybe he is a Red Sox fan? MLB Pipeline @mlbpipeline . redsox considered favorite to sign Albert Guaimaro, #11 on the Top 30 Int'l Prospects list: atmlb.com/1dKONyF

Umm could be a typo but I asked Jesse Sanchez, who cover international prospects for MLB.COM, on Twitter if he responds I'll post it here.

Started a new thread for this because the other thread is only for the period ending in June.

Also noticed that we're tied to MLB's 24th best international prospect for the 2015-2016 period, Simon Muzziotti, an OF from Venezuela. Is it possible we could snag these guys with our max offers (is it 300k or 250k?) plus maybe whatever college funding is allowed?

Extremely doubtful that you can give college money to a 16yo int'l IFA who won't attend college. I'd be stunned.

I think the max is 50k for scholarships when a bonus of bonuses is of less than a million.
The Red Sox have given it to Rijo and Espinoza, probably others too but those I've seen reported.

Huh. Weird.

I had thought I had seen it reported too...just wasn't sure how much was allowed. That said, if a college bonus is 50K, that doesn't exactly sweeten the pot all that much when other top prospects are banking in between 1-4 mill. However, a look at Kiley McDaniel's thorough updates suggest that Albert Guaimaro doesn't have a landing spot yet (although he does project him for 7 figures), whereas the vast majority of his other projected signings do have landing spots. Further, Simon Muzziotti didn't crack his list so perhaps MLB.com is high on him and maybe we do have a deal in place near the top end of our allowed bonuses?

Just for reference, last year the #11 and #24 international J2 prospects (according to MLB.com) got $1.6 mil and $850k respectively.

The Red Sox will be limited to 300k max per bonus. I still don't believe either rumor. To me its seems like their agents connecting them to the Red Sox, given that the Red Sox are thought to have good International scouting department.
Now weird things happen in Latin America so I'm not completely ruling it out. A quick twitter search showed that Guaimaro was recently in Florida, he had a picture with Moncada, so there may be genuine interest.
I'll wait until either McDaniel or Ben Badler further confirm this.

Yeah, I was just showing how much of a discount these players would be taking to sign with the Red Sox. One can logically assume that players this year will make even more than last year, too.

I bet if there is a $50k college bonus, it's something that would require actually going to college not just another check.

Yadier Alvarez will be in the 2015-16 period. He tried to be elegible for this period but MLB denied it.
The Dogers are planning to go big and he is their top target along with guys like Starling Heredia and others.

Would this be allowed? Even if not quite ethical. Let's say there is a pretty good 16 year old prospect who wants to sign with us. He wants more than allowed. Say, this 16 year old has an older brother. Sign both for the max allowable. It benefits their family. We get our guy.

Package deals happen all the time. Not even have to be brothers, just have the same trainer. IDK if this is what the Red Sox will do but it happens.
Edit: realized after posting that you could argue that the Basabe brothers were a package deal and more famously the Honkbal Aruba brothers (Bogaerts) were a package deal.

Say, this 16 year old has an older brother. Sign both for the max allowable. It benefits their family. We get our guy. Yup. www.soxprospects.com/players/mesa-carlos.htm (explicitly was only signed because he's boys with Moncada) www.soxprospects.com/players/bogaerts-jair.htm (Xander's twin, and there was at least a little bit of interest there, although not nearly as much) www.soxprospects.com/players/moanaroa-moko.htm (Boss's older brother. Came to U.S. with him after he signed and the story goes that one day, they let him hit and he wasn't terrible, so they signed him and put him in a uniform) (On the Basabes, my understanding is that while Alexander has perhaps separated himself at this point, they did like both of them, as evidenced by their equal signing bonuses.) Now, the thing you need to balance it with is that you only have so much coaching and playing time to go around. Even if you don't care about the other guy (and in the case of Moko and Jair, there wasn't anything to indicate that the Sox cared "zero" about them - it was probably more like they cared a tenth as much about them), you can't just sign them and then cut them in a month. That'd get the commish's office on you I'd think. Now, if a team really abused this, then the commissioner's office would probably step in then as well. If a team signed a stud for way less than he was worth because of the spending penalties, and then suddenly signed 8 other guys who lived on his street for $300k as well, then yeah, that might look fishy.

It certainly seems like the Red Sox may sign some decent VZ talent this summer despite their bonus limits. This likely played into their decision to go over their limit last year (of course the presence of Moncada is justification alone), given that they've been negotiating deals for this signing period for probably ~1 year at this point. Whats up with that Rangers shirt though?

I had no idea before hand, but some quick googling yields that this is probably Yorvit's kid, who was kidnapped a half dozen years ago. That's... weird.
