Scott Lauber @scottlauber 4m4 minutes ago Rusney Castillo taking early batting practice at Rogers Centre, so it would appear a roster move is at hand. Stay tuned. #RedSox MacPherson speculated whether he was up just as Hanley insurance, but typically when they do that, they don't have the guy come to the field to take BP, do they? Isn't it more like they stash him in a nearby hotel secretly? My guess is the move is to send down Ross or Barnes to get more balance back to the roster until they activate Victorino. Also can't help but wonder if, yet again, Bryce Brentz has missed out on a call-up because he was hurt. If this is short-term (Shanf rehabbing), you'd assume they'd have preferred to leave Castillo in Pawtucket.

“@tracyringolsby: A’s scratch Sonny Gray. Chris Bassitt starts in his place against Rockies tonight.” I traded Porcello, Kelly and Allen Craig for him and ate half the money. All. Paid Billy Beane an additional $3 million.

sadly it may take more than that to get gray, if only detroit could have found a way to lose a couple of more games in 2010

Gordon Edes @gordonedes · 56m56 minutes ago 6/30 at TOR: Betts CF, Holt 2B, Bogaerts SS, Ortiz DH, Sandoval 3B, Napoli 1B, De Aza LF, Swihart C, Bradley Jr. RF, Rodriguez LHP Ortiz and Sandoval have been the #1 and #2 worst hitters in the league this year against LHP (min 40 AB against LHP or any qualified batter), and they are batting back to back. I'm not one who puts much stock in the R/L/R batting order, but any team could bring in a pitcher the equivalent of Breslow or Ross and get two easy outs against the middle of our order. Napoli has a 132 Wrc+ against LHP, he would be a good candidate to sandwich between them. www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2015&month=13&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,a Edit: Not sure why this link doesn't work, but if you copy it into your browser it seems to work.

That link doesn't work. Do you know how Sandoval has done against LHPs since he stopped batting right-handed. My impression was that he has hit them better left-handed than he did right-handed.

Looks like Swihart/JBJ will go back to AAA when Hanigan/ShaneO are ready, per Farrell, with Leon being Buchholz's personal catcher and De Aza/ShaneO platooning in RF.

Because De Aza's the HOT HAND and Farrell hates JBJ.

So apparently Eduardo Rodriguez has been tipping his pitches from the stretch. Sending Swihart down is unbelievably stupid. In the last two weeks he has caught in 11 games and has hits in ten of them, and a total of 12 hits during that period. He is getting more and more adjusted, and playing better and better. Going to AAA can't possibly help him. They should be operating for the future. Buchholz could adjust to Hanigan. Leon can't hit. Can't argue against playing De Aza. He has been a great addition. I don't know if he can keep it up, but he has earned the chance. I hate to say it because I don't wish him a bit of harm, but I doubt that Shane will play for the Sox much longer. He'll either get hurt again, which is very probable, or will (should) be included in some package at deadline time. If the Sox win tonight they will have have won one more game than they lost during June, an improvement over May, but that pace is not enough to catch anyone.

All Swihart can do is keep swinging it well and work on keeping his body from pulling away from the ball before making contact from the left side. Hope he keeps hitting. He may be better than Hanigan by year's end. Maybe he'll come back up once Buchholz hits a rough patch and they realize having a personal catcher is stupid/unproductive... Especially when that guy is a horrible framer and hitter.

Shane Victorino just will not go away...will he? Well the guy hasn't been able to stay healthy for more than a few weeks at a time for the better part of two years now so I'm guessing he'll go away pretty quickly.

Mid-season is upon us and we still are thinking about DEPTH? Leon is practically and automatic out. Blake Swihart is our future catcher and has played very well over the last 2 to 3 weeks. You can see nightly how he keeps making subtle adjustments to major league pitching. He is becoming a fine receiver and has shown he belongs. It was just yesterday I was thinking Swihart would probably get 3 out of every 5 games when Hanigan came back....and now this. Yes we have played better over the past week, but part of that is because Swihart has consistently improved his all-around game. This kid came up in a very difficult situation and has prospered. It has finally become enjoyable watching the Sox because of Betts, Rodriquez, Xander, and Swihart. These kids, and not the veterans, is why we are improving and succeeding. To me that is a bone-head decision.

The Red Sox making stupid personnel decisions is just par for the course.
No doubt part of the reason is cause Farrell requested Leon to stay on.

Cherington needs to tell Farrell he is wrong about things and keep Swihart up. The kid is adjusting nicely, and Hannigan caught Buchholz earlier in the year, with some success.

Any bets on how long until Shane hits the DL again? I'll put the over/under at 2 weeks to start off.

I think Swiahrt could learn more splitting time with Hannigan than playing the majority of Time in AAA. Hannigan has been around and knows the AL East.
