espn is talking about how sandoval was signed for his postseason performance :/ They also said he is playing like the guy they signed. He's been 30% worse on offense than ever before, and much much worse on defense. At least his baserunning hasn't gotten worse (it was already bad).

Love Ortiz, but (barring Hanley improving dramatically more in left or moving to first/third and being competent) it would be a great thing for the Red Sox if he managed to get 500 homers this year and just called it (would be more realistic if the Sox were having a good season, can't see him going out on this one).

You know, after single-single-homer-double, I was really about ready to see a bunt.

I know Hanley has a -0.8 fWar mostly as a result of very poor LF play but can someone who has positional adjustments available tell me what his fWar would be if he produced the exact same offensive line as a DH the entire season?

I think he could still be a good DH next season if he literally never hit against lefties next season. But that'd require him accepting such a role, which... In a perfect world, Ortiz would DH against righties, and Hanley would play LF against righties and DH against lefties. Then, Ortiz hangs it up after next season, and Hanley takes over as the full-time DH. If only.

Including baserunning he'd be slightly under .5 fWAR on the season on my quick rough estimate. EDIT: Basically what Ortiz has given you with worse base running. Yes, he's been that bad on the bases.

I think Ortiz could definitely be a solid DH, and I wouldn't be too afraid of him hitting lefties (although certainly more off days), but the problem is more Hanley, at his current production is a detriment to the team in the field.

Mookie Betts has been the coldest player of them all since the All-Star break.
It was no surprise we couldn't score until tonight without him, consider he and X have been the driving forces of our team this year.
