Wow-- the Patriots and offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo have reportedly "parted ways." Shocker....
Would have felt until last Broncos game the line did as well as it could given injuries especially on blind side?

Good Reiss article on where the Patriots stand in the upcoming draft. Despite being stripped of their first they should have a lot of picks thanks to compensation for free agents. Additionally they have no major free agents this year so if Tom Brady can continue to elude father time (and Roger Goodell) the Pats should be right back in the playoff mix next year.
Thanks for the post....good reminder that there is something more to look forward to, or speculate about with regard to the Pats draft.....

Calvin Johnson is reportedly retiring. One can dream, right? Maybe he wants to win one first?
What do people think will happen with Butler's contract? That's a bit scary to me.

When was the last time the Pats got 88/1214/9 from a wideout? Would be quite a matchup nightmare for teams to cover both he and Gronk at the same time.

No doubt in my mind he's still one of the ten or so best WRs in football. His specialty (jump balls, especially down the sideline) doesn't play to Brady's strengths, but put him on the Patriots and it's like Randy Moss all over again (albeit likely to a much lesser extent).

That lines up with letting the o-line coach go. And maybe Matt is interviewing for the job.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but Peyton Manning has out played Brady and Newton. What a way to go out.

Yes, I'm serious. He out played both. His stats were bad this year, but he's not close to the worst QB to win. Jim McMann, Doug Williams etc.

That's a little harsh. Yeah, he's a shell of his former self, but he managed the games well and didn't make many mistakes. For all the games he's won for his football teams, it's OK to rely on your teammates to win some also. I mean, Brady has had Belicheck all his career, or he wouldn't have had alot of the success he's had also.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but Peyton Manning has out played Brady and Newton. What a way to go out. You're not evaluating them fairly. Denver simply had an unreal defense, especially on the pass rush. People hammered the Pats mess on the offensive line, but Cam and the Panthers line couldn't fight off Von Miller and Co., either. Not taking anything away from the respectable Carolina and New England defenses, but they didn't have Denver's arsenal -- no one else did. It's nice for Peyton and the Broncos that he went out an SB Champ, but let's not pretend he carried them. Denver's lack of offense kept these games relatively close.

I'm not saying Manning "carried them" But he was better than Brady, and Newton.

He got a meager 13 completions for 141 yards, relied on handing it to CJ Anderson to move down the field, and had a few big turnovers. And that's without a Von Miller-esque attacker reaching him constantly.

Newton also turned the ball over, over threw several receivers, and by the way, Carolina has a good D too.

Could anyone say that if Brady and Manning swapped teams that the results would have been anywhere close to the same? Imagine Manning getting 1.5 seconds to get rid of the ball and zero running game. Manning didn't outplay anyone in the league. He just happened to be on the best team. Tim Tebow could have won that Super Bowl.

Brock Whatshisname is not going to win this Super Bowl. He took the snaps and finished the game, he deserves the credit and the title. Co-opting Brady's juvenile quote when he found out it would be Mannings Last year; Game on.....Game Over.....Manning victor.

He took snaps and had a lousy couple of games and won. They seriously considered benching him all season and during the playoffs. They didn't because they didn't need a good qb to win. I'm an Eagles fan who follows the Patriots because my gf is a fan.

Tim Tebow is a stretch, but I'm pretty confident Brock Osweiler would have put the Broncos in just as good of a position as Manning did. It seemed abundantly clear to me and just about every analyst out there that Manning was a below-average quarterback this year. At best, you could call him a decent game manager who put the team in positions to succeed, but even then, he turned the ball over a ton (including twice in the Super Bowl) and showed definite limitations.

To me it doesn't matter. Peyton was called a choker for most of his career when his teams weren't good enough to win it all despite him being pretty much the best player in football by far. I think it's a perfectly poetic piece of karma that he wins it all on his last ride by being a bad player on the best team in football by far.
Besides, people like mocking him for choking while now ignoring the leadership he had on this Broncos team, I just don't get it. Maybe Brock Osweiler wins the Super Bowl as well but who cares, Brock Osweiler will never be as good as Peyton Manning. He noodle armed his team to a win and that's awesome, that's like Clay Buchholz in 2013 against the Cardinals. I can dig anything that reminds me of the weird post-season Clay had that year.

If Brady plays 3 more years, arguments like this one (highest statistical accumulation = best player) won't matter anyway.
