Bradford confirming Orsillo to SD. Announcement to be made today or tomorrow. Don to do some radio PBP as well as TV as Dick Enberg eases into retirement. Multi-year deal.

I'm sure all the people faux outraging over this will now be tuning in to Padres games regularly.

I mean, let's look at this objectively. The Red Sox "leaked" Orsillo was being canned. People started chanting, making signs, going to the park, and tuning in to NESN again.
Orsillo probably gets more money, heads to sunny San Diego, can do more national TV broadcasts, and gets a hero's send off.
Don seems like a perfectly nice guy, he was absolutely adequate during his time at NESN, and I'll miss his calls. But, how can anyone feel "bad" for him?

I mean, let's look at this objectively. The Red Sox "leaked" Orsillo was being canned. People started chanting, making signs, going to the park, and tuning in to NESN again. Orsillo probably gets more money, heads to sunny San Diego, can do more national TV broadcasts, and gets a hero's send off. Don seems like a perfectly nice guy, he was absolutely adequate during his time at NESN, and I'll miss his calls. But, how can anyone feel "bad" for him? I don't believe that the Red Sox were the ones who leaked it. What did they have to gain from that? As for Orsillo, his family is staying in the area so they don't need to move their kids, and he's from the area and working for the Sox was his dream job, so yes, I feel bad for him. The issue is that the Red Sox canned a perfectly good PBP guy to bring in O'Brien, who while an upgrade strikes me as only marginally so and probably not worth this whole rigamarole. I doubt any issues with Orsillo, such as those discussed above, couldn't have been directed out of him. I doubt, for example, he'd have resisted direction to make the broadcasts less silly or something - we know, based on his early Red Sox work and his TBS work that he can play it straighter than he does on the typical NESN broadcast. But I'm not sure how you can pin the tone of things on him - it's not like the Wally Wave was his idea. I also think that a lot of the issue is from how NESN has handled this. For example, does anyone believe that this tribute to Don the channel has planned for the last game was even on the radar before they got crushed for barely acknowledging, and going out of their way not to show, the video in the last home game? That said, it sounds like the San Diego gig is a great landing spot for him. By the way, this Edes piece is basically the definitive story on the situation: espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/post/_/id/47293/for-red-sox-broadcaster-don-orsillo-a-moving-goodbyeIt sounds like they want to take the broadcast in a completely different direction, which is fine, but the way they've gone about it has been pretty tone deaf and insensitive, if not also confusing and strange.

Darling is ok IMO. More opinionated than Remy for sure though. I could see him wanting the gig, as I'm pretty sure he grew up a Sox fan in Mass.

Darling lives in Manhattan. The grind might be a bit difficult at this stage. I don't see it happening.
Jerry's has droped a few hints. I'm sure when he says "I love this job" what he's saying is viewers who want me around better start making that clear or I'm out too.

The guy's dream was to be Red Sox announcer, not the Padres' announcer. Plus more importantly his daughters are in New England. Moving 1000s of miles away from them isn't better for him. Try putting yourself in his shoes and ask yourself how you'd feel in his situation? I'm glad he's landing on his feet, but this isn't what he wanted.

I know he's a Sox fan and he's from the area, but it would be strange to have a guy in the broadcast booth that was a member of the 1986 Mets. I know Eck was on those A's team that clobbered the Sox in 88 and 90 and Eck was a part of that but he was also a Red Sox, too.

86 Mets aside, I really like the crew SNY has right now. Great watching experience. I think they could do a lot worse.

In all seriousness, I'd love to hear Dempster do some announcing.

Remember all the #outrage and clamoring for Remy to quit/be fired during the whole thing with his son? And that was related to a serious, horrific crime. And that was what, less than two years ago? Yeah, now imagine how fast people are going to forget about Don Orsillo.

Meanwhile, who replaces O'Brien on the radio network? Will they bump Joe Castig back up to #1 guy, or keep easing him towards retirement? Are any of the PawSox alumni worthy* of being #1 (or #2) on Red Sox radio?
*Not speaking of Gary Cohen here; that ship sailed a long time ago ...

That is a long planned transition tactic, designed to move Remdog to the door while paying him full $$ for a diminished role. Crushing for the ego, Meanwhile Eck, Lyons, likely others audition in plain site as Jerry has less and less of to say in bis own 'house'. Nasty NYC corporate politics. Where did Maar come from? Fox?

Love Eck and never had a problem with Remy, but I find Lyons to be Harold Reynolds awful and annoying. More games with the volume down I guess.

Remember when Derek Lowe did a few games a couple years back and was shockingly good?

While it certainly isn't like he didn't have legitimate reasons for it, with all the time that Remy has missed the past few seasons for health and personal reasons, he's lucky they're even still giving him that many games. I thought he would be transitioned to the studio this season, myself. We all know your thoughts on a guy losing his job for health reasons, and I agree there's something to that, but there's something to be said for knowing a guy is going to be at work every day. Frankly, this was the only realistic way to bring him back - they know there'll be games he's not working ahead of time, but he still gets to do games. Seems fair for all, to me. Heck, for all we know, Remy asked for the reduced schedule.
