Watching the bullpen blow a lead after a well-played game by the rest of the team has been oddly satisfying considering the position of the Sox right now ... except against the Yankees. Blowing this would be no fun.

In all seriousness, I would have brought in Wright earlier (he needs to be in the BP next year), then I guess Ross Jr. for the save? But I don't have a teleporter for Wright or a time machine, so...

This is why I don't like the parade of 1-inning relievers and would rather have multi-inning options. The more relievers you bring in the game, the greater the chance that you bring one in that doesn't have it that particular night.

Is Lovullo awake? Why is this guy still in the game?

Defensive metrics are weird and inconsistent. I think Iglesias is a very valuable guy if he can stay at or above 100 wRC+. The Peavy trade still made enough sense at the time IMO. I had no problem with Peavy for Iglesias (but was proven wrong). But Hahn snookered Ben on Montas (when the White Sox had zero leverage). I've always felt that Iglesias' defense was more spectacular than good. Meh, I feel kind of the same way you do (I'm not a huge Iglesias fan, and I think he's too concerned with flash over substance), but Montas was terrible in Greenville. His FB command was poor and he couldn't get his slider over for strikes. He had the huge arm but no use of it. The White Sox rolled the dice and got lucky, but Cherington wasn't exactly snookered. Montas had given absolutely zero indication that he was going to do what he did. It's possible someone in their minor league system saw something in his delivery, or maybe he got pissed at being traded, but...well, that's why you don't trade guys who throw 100, even when they stink, and especially when they're 19.

Is Lovullo awake? Why is this guy still in the game? Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't? (yeah, I too think they're all devils)

Finally, Breslow up and warming. Words I never thought I would hear after the first half of this season.

Delightful to think about how maddening this game must've been for Yankees fans.

most embarrassing win of the year right there... makes ya sick to watch the bullpen and the coaching decision to boot.

Lovullo with some Phil Jackson mindgames there. We're sweeping them.
