Okay, the more I'm hearing the more I like this move.
Which means a lot to all of you.

Baird has the role currently Yeah, as soon as I saw it, I wondered (briefly) if Baird was gone. Maybe they co-exist, but it seems doubtful. Can't say I have any feelings either way on the Baird/Wren smackdown.

I have to admit, I really liked the B.J. Upton signing when it happened. I thought Upton's defense would give him a high floor, and he was a 28-year-old perennial 3+ win player who still had a fair bit of untapped upside. There were some makeup issues, but at the time, he was basically a poor man's Jason Heyward. There's been a lot of negativity about Wren, but I don't know that he's all that bad of a baseball evaluator. The linked article is a nice illustration of how he managed to build pretty good teams in Atlanta.

From what I have read the negativity surrounding Wren is more about his poor treatment of other front office staff, including repeated verbal abuse at a tenor and level not tolerated in corporate environments these days. This may be why he's staying in Atlanta.

@brianmacp: Dombrowski said he would love to add Jerry DiPoto on a full-time basis but is waiting until the jobs DiPoto interviewed for are resolved.

Who has the inside track on Hazen old position Assistant G.M.? I just read Chris's post so I guess no one..
I also like Eddie Romero to get a promotion ,this guy is a beast on the international market.

Meh, I'd bet Wren's an improvement on Baird. I'll be very happy if they keep DiPoto too although I wonder if all the different styles might lead to conflicts or if they would coexist and thrive.

It would be nice to understand the chain of command between DD, MH and others. I would hope that Wren has no decision making powers, particularly around free agent signings as his track record is not good. Additionally the Braves farm system regressed significantly under Wren's watch so I hope that he has very little input in the draft and international signings.

A couple of additional thoughts..
Dipoto is still interviewing for other GM positions. I would hope that the Red Sox are still not using him as a consultant and allowing him to participate in organizational meetings while he continues to interview for other positions.
Apparently Wren is reporting directly to Dombroski (per Cafardo so consider the source). Wren goes way back with Dombroski when they were both at Montreal and Florida. I would be leary of that relationship between Dombroski and Wren if I were Hazen, particularly given that Wren is working remotely from Atlanta and has a history of not being a good team player from a management stand point.

Even Buch needs to audition in this new regime. Taking nothing for granted, positive or negative. A troika of DD, Hazen and Wren with a hopefully enhanced FO staff will have a ton of old and new school information on how each player might fit onto the 40 man in 2016. This concept of investing heavily in the front end of Sox admin worked before, so it's a good model. Am hoping this iteration is as successful in a league with greater parity.

I wouldn't call it an audition. They probably want to see how close he is to being healthy and how much they can rely on him being healthy next year. Everyone knows what he can do when that's the case.

DiPoto will be Mariners' GM according to Bowden Man, what a perfect job for him. Takes over a team with a solid system and a legit ace, and gets to stick it to Moreno and Scioscia? He'd probably have taken that for free.

That site also keeps saying "Yoan Moncado". Doesn't seem very credible at all.
