Man I wish we had Margot and Guerra to sweeten a package.

1. I think Margot/Guerra DO impact the depth of the system should Boston put together a prospect/young MLBer package
2. I'm not sure that they impact the actual offer Boston could/would make. Mostly, bc I think a trade offer would likely include 2 "higher" guys (ERod, Betts, Swihart, Moncada group - with the assumption that Bogaerts is 100% off-limits - which may not be true). If you're doing that do you also offer Margot and/or Guerra?
Not so sure. I actually think someone from the Logan Allen might be more likely part of a package (but he might be easier to replace)

Not that anyone cares, but Swihart, Moncada and Owens worked for me last night in OOTP 16.
And yes, I would do that deal in a heartbeat for Fernandez.

Craig Mish @craigmish 1h1 hour ago Growing sentiment around Baseball and internally with the @marlins is Jose Fernandez will be traded this offseason. They really want Stanton to opt out of that contract don't they. One caveat with Fernandez, TJ did eat up two of his control years. He is only controlled for the next 3 years. I'm not saying he isn't crazy valuable, just something to consider.

Stanton and Fernandez for moncada, devers, Espinoza, and kopech. Toss in Hanley so miami can be all sentimental, and eat all of his contract along with Stantons.

Doesn't exactly sound like the "horse" Dombrowski is looking for, but the market could change that.

Still leaves us a couple specs and the 12 pic. Of coarse Fernandez would have to be healthy for sure.

Each guy on his own would command a kings ransom

If he's traded, & I hope it's not to us, that team will ride him like a mule knowing they only have him for 3yrs. With what it will take to get him, they are going to get their money's worth. He may need another TJ or shoulder surgery in 3 yrs.

Betts by himself is worth a lot more than Fernandez because he's a position player, better health record, more years of control. A realistic deal would likely start with Swihart, ERod or JBJ and include premium prospects. The only one I would consider offering in that kind of package would be JBJ. JBJ, Owens/Johnson, any prospect not in our top 4 and a lower level guy would be the most I would consider giving up for Fernandez. That probably doesn't get it done, but that's OK - Fernandez has too much risk to mortgage the future for.

I would trade Betts + Owens + Castillo + Miley for Fernandez + Stanton. Then I'd turn my xbox off.

Agree with this.....I can't see many GM's giving much more either....Your not going to give a Betts, Joey Gallo, Urias type player.....Miami may get a JBJ type + a few pieces like you mentioned. The buying team is only going to get about 2 (really good) years of this guy. Harvey may require Betts because he'll give you 3 years.

If he's not, my bad.

I wouldn't trade Espinoza, Devers, or Benintendi for Gallo straight up, and he's a top 10 prospect. Not everything is as cut and dry as people have been acting when it comes to trades.

I think this is a good argument for prospect lists having systematic biases that everybody knows about but nobody actually acts on when making their lists. Baez was another similar player that never really had the trade value of a top 10 prospect I would guess, and people knew it. Kiley was was of the few that thought about these things...

I suppose this goes back to one teams #1 is not as good as another teams #8...Slightly off the subject, I remember a few years ago when the Dodgers had Seager in high-A & that he was "untouchable". I was thinking that he was a long way from the bigs & that a lot can happen. Turns out they were right about him. Hope our guys can accelerate similarly.

Would the Marlins do something crazy like trade Stanton + Jose? Clears payroll, would fetch an absurd return of players.
The Cubs, Indians, Twins, Astros, Red Sox, and Dodgers could offer pretty insane packages. Hell, even the Mets or Nationals could get involved.

Just putting it out there, but I'd give up Betts for Fernandez and Stanton.

Just putting it out there, but I'd give up Betts for Fernandez and Stanton. Without hesitation. What Giancarlo would do to that left field wall...

I would say attack it with quantity to make sure we aren't giving up Moncada,Devers,Benintendi,Swihart,Betts or Bogaerts(preferably not Espinosa either). Offer up JBJ,Owens,Kelly,Chavis,Brentz, and Kopech for Jose and Osuna. Then flip Osuna and B Johnson to Cleveland for Carrasco. Sign J Upton and O'day(or best lefty reliever on the market I know O'day isn't a lefty, lol). This would be my perfect offseason. Of course this assume's those guys are available and they would not just hold out for the above mentioned guys. But if you are the Marlins that is 2 young controllable MLB assets(Kelly and JBJ),2 young lottery tickets with huge upside(Chavis and Kopech) and another solid prospect close to MLB ready(Brentz). As far as Cleveland and Carrasco goes they are known to covet Osuna and him and B Johnson would fit pretty well I think. Again if you have to add another mid level prospect(Jerez?Aro?) so be it. Then Sign Upton to play left. O'Day is my favorite guy on the market as a set up guy and he can pitch the 7th, and him or Tazawa can step into Koji's 8th inning role the following year. All that said it probably never happens cause the Marlins aren't trading Jose.
