Glad to hear Ryan Kalish is getting called up by the Cubbies. Here's hoping he gets a chance at proving himself.

Per Gammo, Kalish has had NINE surgeries in some sort of timeframe, which is still kind of absurd considering he's less than five years removed from being this system's top prospect.

Yes, I am hoping Kalish can defy the odds and enjoy a decent career in the bigs. I hate to see such a promising career derailed by injuries.

Really like the look John Jaso's got going on right now.

He's also not making millions, which makes it that much more incredible that he's still at it. My larger point is that pro athletes put their bodies through the grinder on a level that is not widely appreciated. Kalish is on the extreme end of that, but maybe not as extreme as we think. Dan Haren admitted in a recent interview with Jonah Keri (warning: audio link) that the last few years of his career, his back and hip had gotten bad enough that he couldn't even walk for any significant distance. That's a guy who never had a surgery in his career and was known for durability.

Reminds me of how Brad Radke - another guy known for durability - talked about how in his final season he couldn't lift a fork to eat with his pitching arm without a cortisone shot. Makes me cringe every time a player is out with injury and some clown questions his toughness.

Too bad for Richards. He's gotten a lot of bad luck. We won't be overpaying for him though.
Now we just have to hope Sonny Gray keeps getting rocked.

Heaney also with a damaged UCL. Apparently he will be able to go the rehab route and avoid TJ, but just a brutal day for the Angels.

If I were Eppler, I would seriously look into trying to do a Trout and Pujols package deal. Obviously it would suppress the return for Trout, but because of his magnificence it should still be substantial. That team is a wreck

Matt Eddy @matteddyba #Royals released reclamation project C Jon Denney this week. They signed the #RedSox 2013 third-rounder in February.

I don't even want to start this discussion. The price would be so high that it likely never gets done with any team.

Diamond Dave Dombrowski has that reputation of zoning in on a target and getting his man. Only reason I brought it up. I think it would be cost-prohibitive, but then again I thought the Sox paid way too much for Kimbrel so what do I know.

If you could get just Trout would probably cost Mookie plus one of Moncada or Benintendi and Espinosa or Devers. You mean Mookie plus two or three of those guys AND we have to take Pujols.

Trout's salary jumps to $32M soon so, no, we don't have to take Pujols.

Kalish made more in two or three years than they make in a lifetime.

Two facts I found interesting from the FS1 Tigers/Rangers game. Iggy has the 5th highest swing to contact ratio in the game, and Beltre already has the 5th most hits all time for a 3b. If he stays healthy he'll get 3000 next year and be the all time hit leader for 3b in 2018. Still has an outside shot at being the all time HR leader if he plays long enough. I was so wrong being against giving him a 5 year deal.
