I don't get this. The Red Sox added the AL CY young runner-up and the most successful closer over the past five years. Why would they NOT be on the media guide? This is soxprospects, man. Even if they added Cy young himself, we'd still want Mookie, X and Swihart on the cover, lol. Cy himself pitched for the Sox.

A little validation for those of us who thought Hanley's April injury was more intense than he let on last year:
@alexspeier Hanley said he couldn't extend for that pitch last year due to front shoulder injury. Now, he feels his plate coverage is back.

They all look good for their first game since September.

Man do I love me some Alex Speier, but christ almighty reading his Panda workout story today from 108 stitches was an atrocious experience. From someone who normally cuts through the bull****, that was a rare misfire.

Paging through the 2016 media guide, I discovered that Paul Beeston's son, Dave, is working in the Red Sox' front office as senior/vp, strategic planning and senior counsel. Never knew that until now -- but maybe I wasn't paying attention since he's been here since 2013.

Alex Speier @alexspeier 5m5 minutes ago Farrell said major league staff requested Moncada for today's game and is likely to request him for more. GOod Here's the entire Alex twitter commentary on Moncada: Alex Speier @alexspeier 4h4 hours ago Quiver in the force: Yoan Moncada enters game as pinch-runner at 1B. (Bases loaded, so no SB opportunities.) Alex Speier @alexspeier 4h4 hours ago Moncada lines a first-pitch inner-half fastball off the glove of Northeastern's first baseman for a double. Alex Speier @alexspeier 3h3 hours ago 2nd AB for Moncada (batting RH): Pulled a 2-1 fastball away on the ground through the 5-6 hole for a grasscutter single. 2-for-2. Alex Speier @alexspeier 3h3 hours ago Farrell said major league staff requested Moncada for today's game and is likely to request him for more. Alex Speier @alexspeier 3h3 hours ago Farrell describes Moncada as 'really physically gifted' with a compact swing from both sides of the plate. Alex Speier @alexspeier 3h3 hours ago To be clear: Farrell's meaning re: Moncada was simply that staff enjoys chance to gain familiarity w/young players and to expose them to... Alex Speier @alexspeier 3h3 hours ago ... Big league-ish setting so that it will diminish some unknown when they're in big league camp in future years. Alex Speier @alexspeier 3h3 hours ago Moncada: 'It's been my dream to put the Red Sox jersey on -- if not this year then next year.'

In addition to an opposite field HR, Brentz added 2 BB's. It's only Northeastern, but that's not a bad thing for Brentz.

Best hitter for the day was Sam Travis with a hustle double on a liner to right center and a screamer one-hopping the LF wall. Agree on Moncada's swing...jumped on the up and near inside pitch with a short stroke. Looks about 5'10". Also Heath Hembree looked a lot slimmer (not Panda slim) than I remember. Against college kids he looked very good.

If you're like me and you think MLB's video player is trash, here you go:
I also put an interview on the end.
I'm not sure exactly how the MLB will handle copyright stuff so I might eventually get some strikes and have to take the videos down. Then again, it's just spring training...

Caught the first game yesterday. Only time I root for Sox to lose. Impressed with Sam Travis, two 2B hits. The first he legged it out to turn a single into a double. Second hit was scorched on a liner to left. Sam has speed to as he showed in his first hit. All pitchers looked good, but consider the opposition. Speaking of BC, it has a first baseman named Joe Cronin. Don't know if it was by design but he wears #4.
Enjoyed this morning workout. Great experience to walk around, mingle with the players, and talk to sports writers. Had a chat with Shawn McAdam. Benintendi looks small both in height and girth. OTOH Kopech looked taller than I thought he was.
Watched the big leaguers for a while. Pitcher fielding drills. Robby Ross, Jr. Earned a Gold Glove IMO. Coaches kidded him about his athleticism.
Got Monster seats for the opener vs Twins tomorrow.

If he can get his changeup going like it sounds like he did, that's going to make him so much better.

Love the attitude.
Easy to dream on and Espinoza/Kopech 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation in a few years.
