Lots of discussion of this on the podcast as well. news.soxprospects.com/2016/03/podcast-ep-94-reports-from-fort-2016.htmlWe had lots of changes, so fire away. And note that the old rankings in parens are from the end of the season, not from the rankings prior to the update on Monday. Here's our man DD's notes: DetailsSummary:- The top 7 are unchanged in order, but:
- # 6 Brian Johnson's ceiling is down from 6 to 5
- The current grade for Sam Travis (# 7) is up from 4 to 5 and his floor is up from 2 to 4
- Luis Alexander Basabe is up 2 coming in at # 8, knocking Deven Marrero & Michael Chavis down a notch.
- Marco Hernandez is up 3 at # 11 and his current grade is now 4.
- Travis Lakins really jumped up in the rankings, from 23 to 12.
- Mauricio Dubon moved from 15 to 13 despite his ceiling dropping from 6 to 5.
- Trey Ball dropped from 11 to 15 and his current and ceiling grades fell to 3 & 6 respectively.
- Chis Acosta is now 19, up 9.
- Wendell Rijo fell by 8 with his current and ceiling grades both dropping a point.
- Kyle Martin moved up from 31 to 22.
- Teddy Stankiewicz went the other way, from 17 to 23.
- Henry Ramos is the big winner this time, up 17 spots, from 41 to 24.
- Austin Rei was also on the plus side, now # 25, up from 36.
- Austin Glorius up from 30 to 26.
- Ty Buttrey & Noe Ramirez both down 9 coming in at 29 & 30.
- Yankory Pimentel went from 44 to 31.
- Marc Brakeman up from 40 to 33.
- Roniel Raudes at 34, up 9.
- Bryce Brentz (ranked 5th after the 2012 season) fell another 11 spots and is now 35th.
- Jordan Procyshen (I think I spelled it right!!) down 8 at 37th.
- Jeremy Rivera +7 to # 38.
- The other Basabe, Luis Alejandro is ranked for the first time at 40.
- Kevin McAvoy & Ben Taylor are at 41 and 42, down 16 and 15.
- Victor Acosta, Gerson Bautista, and Sean Coyle are at 43 - 45, down 7, 11, and 7 respectively.
- Imeldo Diaz is ranked for the first time at # 50.
- Jose Almonte is at 52, back in the top 60 for the first time in 18 months.
- Junior Espinoza joins the top 60 for the first time at # 53.
- Darwinzon Hernandez is also new at 55.
- Kyri Washington dropped 11 spots from 45 to 56.
- Another newcomer to the rankings is Nick Duron at # 57

Good to see Ramos' move. The tools are there, he just needs to stay healthy. I wouldn't throw him out of the mix of AAA outfield depth.
Good job once again. The discussion part of Will's report was interesting and informative.
Everyone's going to have an opinion so I'll throw mine out. 1. Moncada, 2. Espinoza, 3. Benintendi, 4. Devers. Pretty much any arrangement of the top 4 can be justified.

From Speier's 108 stitches:
DISPATCHES FROM THE BACK FIELDS: While evaluators typically agree that Rafael Devers has middle-of-the-order offensive potential, there are some questions about whether his likely big league future is at third base or first. Those questions mostly derive from questions about his future body type, and whether he’ll maintain his current size (he’s listed at 6 feet and 195 pounds) or if he’ll ultimately outgrow the position.
For now, however, Devers – ranked the No. 2 prospect in the Red Sox system by Baseball America – shows the arm, footwork, athleticism, and body control of a future third baseman.
“He moves really well for his size. He works really hard at it, and his confidence has gotten better and better the more he plays,” Red Sox infield coordinator Andy Fox said.
Devers, who is 19, committed 10 errors in 72 games at Single A Greenville last year.
“I think he’s done a good job keeping himself in physical condition. He’s real good about keeping his flexibility, and he’s gotten better each and every year since we signed him.”

I don't understand how Noe Ramirez, who could graduate this year with a contender, could lose ground.

I've watched a couple of Ramirez' outings this spring. He reminds me of no one so much as Burke Badenhop. If that is his prototype he'll have a job for a while, and I hope it's with the Sox.

We're finalizing the opening day rankings for tomorrow. Two guys look like they'll have made double-digit jumps. Another will likely be up 7 or 8 spots. Any guesses? Guesses on other significant movement?

Noe Ramirez seems way to low, so I could see him jumping way up.

I'll go Cosart and Ramirez for double digits, and Glorious as the 7 spot jump.
I'll add my other brother Luis (Alejandro) as a sleeper.

I find it just a little unsettling that Pat Light is behind two guys with the same rating and floor but lower ceilings. Otherwise I'm a happy camper.

Or maybe the twins are playing tricks on us? It's interesting that they're continuing to work him in at short more than he's played second. They did a bit of that last year, but I only noticed him playing second base in camp.

Marco Hernandez has to be getting some scouting looks. He's been flat out impressive in the early going. It should be noted that the Cubs ranking starting the year out that we got him, had him as a Top 20 prospect at low A in a very strong system. I've noticed that the Sox have also been getting him some reps at 2B when Marrero plays SS. (Devin, who is off to a slow start with the bat, has been moved around in utility training fashion).

I would pick Benintendi over Moncada and Devers. Hernandez over (Sam) Travis Ockimey over Longhi.

I'll be the first to say what everyone else is thinking. Move Benintendi to 1st, with a ceiling of 8.
