Neither Benintendi's floor nor Kopech's grade changed. Sent from my smart phone I must have typoed them the previous month. Sorry 'bout that.

Not much to see here.

- The most significant change was Aneury Tavarez who moved up from 49 to 43.
- Pedro Castellanos is ranked for the first time at # 59.

I don't envy you guys the task of finding the bottom 8 of the top 60. That's a lot to spit out. As far as fastest movers over and above the automatic move up, my money would be on Dalbec, maybe as high as 5th.

Our new lower level dream prospect it seems. Can't wait for Ian to get another extended look at him because Boston (and CWS) seem quite high on him.

As far as fastest movers over and above the automatic move up, my money would be on Dalbec, maybe as high as 5th. We went ahead and did the whole process from scratch. The end of the list is... interesting. We're basically holding off until we hear the fate of Williams Jerez at this point. Even though his DFA made perfect sense, he's a borderline Top 30 guy right now. No sense posting new rankings when you might be about to have yet another subtraction.

There are links on his player page. Check them out. There were suggestions of new looks/data, so I'm interested to see if there is something even newer on Mata that caused his jump into the top 20. On the one hand, I'm excited for new prospects to emerge. On the other, I have this gross feeling of not wanting prospects to get too much helium for the sake of staying with our team a bit longer...

If nothing else, the high-ceiling feed chain should continue (rookie years).
2017 Benintendi 2018 Devers 2019 Dalbec 2020 Groome

Here's also hoping that Cosart's and Martin's 2016s were real steps forward. If Cosart could develop more drop-and-drive and rely less on just arm, his command and maybe even velocity would improve. I like Martin's groundball skills and I think he translates as a Ross-type guy at his ceiling. But Cosart could be a true late-inning monster if he can put the ball where he wants. And lord knows, developing quality relievers is an absolute must these days.

Man, Bryce Brentz. 8 guys get shuffled out of the top 40 and this guy still moved down 5 spots. Yikes.

Brentz where did the power go? Guy has been in AAA since 2012, making a career out of it.

4 guys get moved out ahead of him and Trey Ball only gets moved up one spot. Interesting.
This site is only lacking one thing: players

DetailsSummary: - No surprise, top 3 are Benintendi, Devers, & Groome
- Bobby Dalbec moved up from 11 to 5, jumping past Brian Johnson & Marco Hernandez.
- Bryan Mata up from 34 to 19. Bryan was not ranked until September.
- Steve Nogosek rose from 35 to 25.
- Robby Scott leaped 20 spots from 49 to 29
- Bryce Brentz fell from 39 to 44. Without the trades, the former # 5 prospect would have been down to about 50.
- Unranked last time:
- # 52, Matt Kemp, 1st time ranked
- # 53, Edgar Olmos, 1st time
- # 54, Jhonathan Diaz, last ranked # 47 on 2/6/15
- # 55, Yeison Coca, 1st time
- # 56, Joan Martinez, 1st time
- # 57, Michael Miller, last ranked # 58 on 6/30/15
- # 58, Jagger Rusconi, last ranked #59 on 7/1/16
- # 59, Juan Barriento, last ranked # 57 on 9/1/16
- Dropping out of the top 60:
- Justin Haley, previously # 36
- Aneury Tavarez, previously # 43
[/ul] Edit: Neglected to mention that Haley & Tavarez dropped out because they were taken in the Rule 5 (~V) Draft the Angels & Orioles respectively.

So, a) His scouting report has been updated. Ian saw him at Instructs and came back very impressed. He put him in his top 30 right away and convinced us to push him up past where he sat after we all voted. Then, B) after the trades, Dave Dombrowski was on WEEI talking about them and the process. He referred to a player in the process that another team asked for who was 1. Venezuelan, 2. had played in the DSL, and 3. had pitched at Fall Instructs, and the Red Sox had refused to trade him. Presuming that these were the negotiations for either the Thornburg or Sale trade, that means that they at least liked this player more than Victor Diaz (21 before the trade) or Josh Pennington (27 before the trade). The only two players who fit the description Dombrowski gave were Mata and Ritzi Mendoza. Now, Mendoza also had a very good year in the DSL... but he was 21 and repeating the league for the fourth time. So there's a 99% chance they refused to include Mata in a deal in which they did trade a player we had ranked higher. Between Ian's report on him (which I'll let you all read), the numbers and other reports we've read, and the Dombrowski thing, it seemed pretty clear we had to move him into the Top 20. Man, Bryce Brentz. 8 guys get shuffled out of the top 40 and this guy still moved down 5 spots. Yikes. For my part, I only really came to realize recently that the dude is going to be 28 all season. Under our old ranking system, we used to take guys out when they hit 26. He's out of options and I'd put 75/25 odds he's not going to be in the organization come April, unless they put him through waivers and he clears. Is there any word on whether or not Acosta will play this year ? What Mike said. We're keeping him at 60 as a hedge (which is why he hasn't moved). Consider that at the beginning of LAST season he was a top 20 prospect. You have to assume he'd be pushing top 10 if he were, y'know, playing. 4 guys get moved out ahead of him and Trey Ball only gets moved up one spot. Interesting. Even if you take out the five-batter, five-walk outing he had, his AFL numbers were uninspiring. I still think there's soemthing there, but he needs to put up or shut up this year.

I was careful to use an exclamation point and not a question mark as I was trying to make a statement. Could Matta be the next guy? Now this just might be a combination of the system being devasted and us prospect loving folk seemingly blessed with a new binky every year.
But you wont see my complain about the information that followed; as always great stuff from the Soxprospects staff. It will be interesting to see what some of these guys can do stateside among other story lines.

Can't believe we're close to having kids born in 2000 as prospects. Mata was born in 1999.
