OMG, every player in the All-Star game is playing for the 1982 San Diego Padres.
I bet JBJ would be good at the home run derby.

It seemed like Trumbo had like 8 in a row that were 450+ feet. The most impressive performance I've seen.

Stanton is in his own league in terms of raw power. If Gallo is an 80 then Stanton is a 90.

I wonder what the kid who beat Betts in the home run derby is doing today...

I wonder what the kid who beat Betts in the home run derby is doing today... Probably sitting in the break room telling his co-workers about the time he beat Mookie Betts in a home run derby.

Great newsletter from Speier today, extremely sobering.
We'd all like to think we can judge the talent, all of us here on this board. To read through the rosters on this year's All-Star teams, however, only highlights how badly the evaluation happens even at the highest levels of MLB. Ortiz and Encarnacion were DFAd. Quintana was released by the Mets, and then allowed to become a minor league FA by the Yankees who'd picked him up. Andrew Miller bounced around for a while before re-inventing himself. Wright and Kluber - former teammates both of whom struggled mightily to break free of the minors. Bogaerts with a down year in his full first season, Bradley who struggled through two ugly ones only to undergo one of the most amazing ML transformations I think I've ever witnessed. On and on it goes.
Looks as if talent is only one part of the equation. Have to be in it for the long haul, and sometimes it's very long.

I heard somewhere that they were going to replace baseballs in the All-Star game with pokeballs.

Nobody told me that Papi isn't the oldest All-Star! Freakin Colon made it? He was done 8 years ago when was with the Sox. He's having a good, but not great season.

That was an impressive double by Xander off Fernandez. Awesome pitch, even better hit.

That was an impressive double by Xander off Fernandez. Awesome pitch, even better hit. Even if it's only for one game, I love our players doing well while in the company of every other great player and on national TV. Makes you really proud to be a Sox fan.

they are already breaking the rules.
Rule is that no starter can be replaced until the 4th inning. Pinch=runner for Ortiz.
perhaps that rule is not active. they make it up as they go along. they also have a catcher re=entry rule if an injury requires it. The Fosse rule. And no pitcher can go more than 3 innings. Even in extra innings. The Torre rule.

Papi's exit made his retirement feel more real to me for some reason. Sadness ensued....

Pardon my ignorance, but why is the American League team the home team if the game is at Petco Park?
