Can we stop with the BS "Ilitch made Dombrowski win now in Detroit" excuses now? He just hates prospects. ::facepalm:: Yes he 'hates' prospects because he traded Espinoza so he wouldn't have to give up Benintendi and/or Moncada for a pitcher.

God this is horrible. I stomached Margot who is a sure fire all star. Now I have to deal with our best pitching prospect BY Far traded for a guy who was a scrub to start the year! He's not a young guy compared to what we should have targeted. Such an awful overpayment. Henry should step in and fire DD now before the trade papers are signed. Worst deal the Sox have made since the Bagwell trade.

I have a feeling DDo is thinking he just traded for the next Arrieta just a little bit before people realize he's for real. That's exactly my read as well. It's a huge gamble, though-- even if Dombrowski is right and Pomeranz is a legit #2, he paid a price commensurate with what you'd give up for a guy who you're sure is a legit #2 and will stay healthy, but Pomeranz comes with a lot of risk, and the trade package doesn't reflect that risk.

According to multiple reports, the Red Sox will acquire starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz from the Padres in exchange for prospects. The Boston Herald reports one of those prospects is Anderson Espinoza.
The 27-year-old is 8-7 with a 2.47 ERA. He also has only pitched on the West Coast as he’s been on the Rockies, A’s and now Padres.

This is a brain dead move by DD. Was he drunk when he made this trade? Espinoza will be up killing it in SD next year while we have a guy who hasn't done **** until this year probably tossing a 4era up there. When has desperation moved ever worked out well? I would've given up almost nothing for this bum, and we just gave up a guy who scouts compare to Pedro and is 18 and already the 15th best prospect in baseball. Can't wait to see this goofy mother****er in a Red Sox uni. Unbelievable

I have to think they really like what they see from Kopech. San Diego doesn't need to draft they just pick thru our guys. Next year they will get a 12 million bonus for drafts because they gonna keep tanking. The Theo Epstein model from Chicago Cubs fame. Honestly I think they way that Kopech is pitching helped pave the way for this trade. Kopech has just as high of an upside and is closer to making it to the bigs over Espinoza.

I'm still in shock but if its 1 for 1 as reported.....then that is much better than originally thought. I was preparing to hear about an Espinoza-Sam Travis-Dubon-Basabe package.
Can anyone recall a 1 for 1 trade of an uber prospect for a solid MLB player?

All due respect. Even Stevie Wonder can see this guy is a product of Petco. He's about to hit an innings wall. If he wasn't in Petco the dude would be a scrub. He sucks. Porcello is better honestly and that isn't saying much. We gave up our ace in 2019. He gave up a future all star outfielder plus other pieces to get fleeced by Preller. We have just built up the Padres for a nice 2019 playoff run. Freaking awesome. This guy is the Billy King of MLB GMs.

Worst GM in Sox history. Can we please bring Ben back? Yes, worst GM in Sox history because he wants to win a World Series over the next few years. ::rolls eyes:: What's he thinking anyways, he's only supposed to build championship minor league teams!!

Not sure who's more of a simpleton: Dombrowski or the people in here defending this move.

The best move that Dombroski should make is to fire Farrell and put Lovullo in as manager. He won't do that until it is too late.

I feel way better if it's straight up Espinoza for Pomeranz
Still feel the trade is unnecessary but whatever. I will be personally guarding Benintendi, Moncada and Devers inside my own house from now on though

This is a bad trade, and that's on Dombrowski. But it's also on ownership, who you know are getting antsy and have green lit these win-now moves for dumb panicky reasons (short-term ticket sales, Ortiz's last season, etc).

They're not bad. Good prospects make good teams. Trading good prospects makes bad teams. This is the current reality in baseball.
