Any of the experts want to try a comparable Red Sox package? Best player in the deal is a back end top 100 guy. Seems like MIL went for quantity over quality. I think we could have easily matched in terms of value without touching the big 4, but it's possible we just didn't match up with what MIL wanted.

Package feels light. If Milwaukee is being reasonable, I wonder the chances of acquiring a reliever from them.

Package feels light. If Milwaukee is being reasonable, I wonder the chances of acquiring a reliever from them. If they're paying attention to the relief market, it's not going to be light. The best deal of the deadline came for a everyday catcher and the worst deal came for a half rental reliever in Chapman. What is this baseball world coming to?

anyone want to guess if the sox make a trade these next 2 days? If I had to guess, it would be for a Fernando Abad type (lefty reliever).

Out of the seven new acquisitions since the offseason, only one's actually worked so far. Even in a small sample, that's a horrible success rate. Especially when you've spent hundreds of millions in dollars and prospects. Please don't do anything anymore Mr. Dombroski.

There had been reports of the clubs talking. I'm kind of hoping they do, because right now I'm really not liking the combination of their suddenly restocked farm system and the 2018 free agent class.

I wonder if that means that Lucroy blocked the deal to the Indians, or if MIL chose Triston McKenzie instead of Justus Sheffield. I can also see the Yankees getting Sale but more likely in the offseason. I'd imagine that the Yankees would try to sell Beltran and then the prospects from Chapman, Miller, and Beltran should be more than enough for Sale.

Ugh. This is why I was hoping the Yanks would win a few more games right until today.

Per Heyman, the Yankees also get pitchers Heller and Fryerson in the deal. Heller could be an interesting bullpen piece.

I think the Yankees front office knows they're more than one Chris Sale away from contention. I think it's just clearing the decks in preparation for the 2017-18 free agent class.

I blame the Royals for this. They win the World Series relying on a lights out pen, now every team thinks they are one fireballing reliever from winning it all.

Plus they don't want to miss out on a perfectly good draft pick by winning more games. Not to mention that Sale could theoretically cost less if the Yankees have a half of a season less to use him.

This is depressing but hats off to the Yankees. I don't foresee them signing the biggest but not so young free agents of the next couple of years to long time contacts. They will most likely wait for the 2018 off season and go hard on Harper, Machado and Fernández. And frankly, I see them as favourites to land all three as by that time, they will have plenty of cheap young everyday starters. We still have the three B's in '19 and I hope the two other B's (Blake and Benintendi) plus Moncada and Devers are leading the charge instead of an Encarnacion or a Bautista.

Great haul by the Yankees. I wonder what a Kimbrell deal would fetch. It is definitely a sellers' market. Hopefully Dombroski, Hazen and Wren are working to phones to gauge the market for Kimbrell, Ross, Kelly, Hanigan, Holt, Buchholz, and Pomeranz.
