Based on who has been sitting in the stands in Portland charting for the last two nights, I'm guessing Atkins starts tonight and Couch on Saturday.

Dalbec watch .286 ISO 24% K% 6.7% BB% 4 HR 1.023 OPS
Strikeouts will be a problem for him, but I think his hit tool will be better than Gallo's. We'll see how his power plays/manifests at higher levels. Also needs to be more selective at upper levels or he'll be another WMB type.
I'll give Dalbec this. He has a better chance at being a legit prospect than I originally gave him credit for.

You figured out a lot about a kid coming from a prestigious baseball program based on 70 at bats in Lowell

With the name dropping and such I probably didn't convey my point all too well.

Dahlstrand is not listed as a probable for the next five games. Wonder if he's hurt again. He's starting to become one of those "if only he'd been able to stay on the field" guys, unfortunately. EDIT: Actually, game notes word it as Atkins is taking Dahlstrand's rotation spot - maybe he's just moving to the 'pen, which makes sense.

Not sure what happened with Junior Espinoza in the GCL today. He walked the first batter he face, threw a wild pitch that advanced him to second, and was removed from the game.
-----
The Red Sox are facing Huascar Ynoa again? That is the sixth time this season. It is only the 10th start he's made. That is absurd.

Would be nice to see Pawtucket light up Severino. I'm hearing way too much hype around the youth movement in Yankeeland.

Yeah, The Ringer (Bill Simmons' website) published a hype piece on Aaron Judge recently as though he was some can't miss all star. The Yankees have done some very smart things but we still have 3 outfielders better than any young piece they have

I think "I think his hit tool will be better than Gallo's" is a little more enthusiastic than "I was wrong to think he had almost no shot at even sticking as a position player." I agree with the second part; I literally thought it was a waste of a pick, and now I see that he has a shot and is interesting.

To be fair Gallo's hit tool is what's holding him back from being a major league regular, but yeah as I said name dropping with popular players wasn't the right move.

Holy cow. Winfield is one of the most spectacular all around players I've ever seen. I don't think anyone this side of Trout can be a legit comp.

I loved the pick (polar opposite approach to Tate Matheny), but this is a much better debut than I'd hoped.

Is it just me, or is the title of this thread vaguely suggestive? If Dalbec keeps hitting like this, K rates fade into insignificance. Has anyone heard if the Sox are doing anything with his swing or his approach at the plate thus far? I've heard in the past that a lot of times the organization lets new draftees simply play and observes them during their first short season exposure to pro ball, rather than trying to change things right away.

My man Dubon with an 865 OPS as a 22 year-old shortstop in AA.
Great middle infield prospect? Or best middle infield prospect in Red Sox history?

That opening line got me to go back up and re-read the thread name, then got a legit LOL. Well-played...and totally on the money.

He came into today leading all of A- ball in wRC+ (minimum 70 PA), despite ranking 192 out of 257 players (excluding age 23 and older) in K% - BB%.
